As long as the power is there, and you have a healthy clutch, transmission, and you can shift quick there is no problem getting these cars in the 10's. For the average person it takes about 550-570whp (dynojet vd) to do it comfortably with stock gearing on a 5 spd. (132-135 traps with mid 10's.)

I did some research of the history of the car to answer your question;

It had a oil pump issue and then a timing belt issue which made the valves touch the pistons. This car had some abnormal mechanical issues that shouldn't have never took place. I wouldn't use this car as your example to scare you away from the platform.
