Michael @ FP, when you get a chance, could you answer the below question??

As previously mentioned in this thread, going off the below link with a car TPG tuned, the car looks super laggy. I know every car is different & there isn't much info besides, it being an Evo 9, 93 oct & 28psi. I would assume/hope that the below results may have been on a 2.0...

Specs from the FP Black & FP Zephyr...(Correct me if I'm wrong on anything)...

FP Black--------FP Zephyr

82HTZ----------79HTZ

67/59mm------68/62mm

68LB------------70LB

I will be buying a turbo for my 2.3 build within the next month or so. Unfortunately I will have to run 93 oct. Car will be around 2800lbs +/- & also have a 4.11 FD. Obviously the FP Black is a proven turbo but I'm very interested in the FP Zephyr since it flows 2lbs more than the Black. I am trying to build the car as well rounded as possible, as it will be driven on the street also but also autocrossed, 1/4 mile & a little road course duty.

With having to run the car on 93 oct., I would imagine it would end up being tuned for around 28psi +/-. I am trying to put together a build with the least amount of lag possible but still easily make 500whp+. I was HOPING the Zephyr would spool the same as the Black but make a little more power up top but TPG's results above don't show that.

Since it is getting closer to spring I am hoping we will see more Zephry results popping up.

What I can tell you from experience, my buddy with his FP Black (stock bottomend 2.0L) lag is minimal slightly more than a stock turbo. My other buddy (Des or whatever his screenname on here lol) has the zero on a fully built 2.4L and the lag is the same or less. Both Evo's spool quick and have zero issues spinning tires.

The one on the black makes 565awhp & 450ft lbs on 93 octane with water meth

The one on the zero made 650+awhp on 93 and 808awhp & 600+ ft lbs on E85.

The car on the black was at 31-32psi and the car on the zero was at 40-42psi making 800awhp.

If you're wanting to autocross the car and make 500awhp i'd suggest a red for the quickest spoolup on a 2.0L but with the 2.3L i'm sure you'd have no problem with a black and it would be a blast to drive.

Just be sure you have all supporting mods, cams that don't rob your mid-low range power, or go overboard on an intake manifold (like a huge plenum manifold).

I appreciate your feedback. At this point the Zero is too big for my wants & needs. So that is why I am trying to decide between the Black & Zephyr.

I was heavy into autox with my '06 MR 6+ yrs ago but that was on stock turbo, a bunch of bolt-ons, suspension, r compounds, etc. So I know that an FP Black or Zephyr isn't that best turbo choice for being competitive in an autox class. However, since I now have an '06 RS that will be under 2800lbs, with a 2.3 setup & 4.11 FD I don't think I will do too bad, haha. I don't plan on attending autox events that often, maybe once every (2) months or so. When I used to autox with my MR it was pretty much full weight.

I had an FP Red 5 yrs ago on stock block & S2 cams. Fun turbo till it blew & I had to send it back to FP. From there I went to a BBK Full then BBK-B. So at this point I'm not interested in going back to an FP Red.

Curt Brown did my shortblock & head. I will be using R2 cams & I also have an FP Cast Manifold that Curt ported as well. In regards to the intake manifold, I have a MAP Rev3 with Milspec TB.

I chopped off the Vband flange and welded my old downpipe onto the Atp downpipe

Tial 38mm with dump tube

So it definitely needs a lot of custom work. It looks like a good solution if you can have someone or can do the fabric work you self. It is probably similar in cost to the FP solution. Good work.

Really the best bet is to probably have a custom one built. It probably won't cost much more than a new off the shelf piece and then you can sell your old setup. Or just modify it.

Hopefully we see some track times too. I don't really care what the dyno numbers are. They don't mean much

I agree.

I love FP products, but I am just not sure what the appeal of the stock frame is anymore. What I would love to see is the Green stuffed into a tial vband hotside housing. That would be gangster.
