This is THE best turbo for the Evo VIII/IX, IMO. Anything smaller is pointless and anything larger takes away what makes the car so great. FP hit the nail on the head with this one.
I will test a 20G compressor in the next few months to compare with 71hta. This wheel is about 1mm bigger, so maybe there's another 50 RPM lag for another 15-20 hp.

How?! If I run 26 psi I get this weird cut out dead miss sounds like spark blow out but I have Honda cops.. Knock sensor doesn't show anything but I'm scared to push it like that so I have it turned down to 23-24 PSI

What's your gap like? If you up the boost and and get blowout symptoms, really sounds like its blowout.

Oh ok, do you use a 3" or 3.5" coupler?

Shouldn't be too bad! I've definitely found my sweet spot. Another 50rpm absolutely wouldn't be the end of the world.

OEM coils. They are good for more WHP than I'd ever make.

I'll measure them in a bit and report back.

I think it's time to swap in S2s.
434/394 on E85 with S1s & 9.8 hotside @ 30psi tapering to 28. I was hoping for more HP but whatever, I know I have some limiting factors in the setup but right now it's not worth messing with it too much. I also wish I just went with S2s from the start.

I want absolute best spool, low end, and.mid range, so went with S1s. Turns out I made more power than I thought..so maybe I made the right decision. The extra whp from the S2 would be great, but I honestly would need to test back.to back. If my current tune maxed out my injectors, then it really wouldn't matter ,anyway, I guess LOL

Kinda looks like you have a boost leak from reading that graph. Spool and torque look late for this turbo. Did you check for leaks?

He doesn't have mivec to help with spool.

If he has a leak, how is he holding 26-28 psi up top?

The turbo would be working extra hard. The tuner would have seen abnormally high load values, though, unless it's tuned on SD.

Mine drops to 22-23 psi with oem WGA. Unless he has aftermaket 18 - 22psi WGA, I can't see 71 pushing that much boost especially with 9.8 housing.

Good point, he is definitely holding boost. Just seems late. But most of the HTA 71 graphs I read have MIVEC.

And have 10.8 housing. I'm not sure how he got 9.8 to fit. I only see 71hta for IX on FP site.
