I held 28-29 lbs on my HTA71 until I toasted the turbine due to a pretty massive leak.

It's not unheard of.

I didn't boost leak check it right before the dyno, but every time I remove any IC piping it gets checked when going back together. I have an old Evo 8 variant of the turbo (4 yrs?) and an 18psi actuator and still on MAF. Also of note, I think if that pull started before 3250 RPM it probably would have moved spool a little to the left. When I used to tune it I would always start at maximum 3000 RPM

The torque seems really low too, with s2s and an Evo 8 I make a lot more power a lot sooner

My spark plug gap is at .020 I think and still blows out at less than 26psi. The head is ported though so I could just be flowing that much more air, or it could be a bad port job and can't get the exhaust out fast enough?
There no port work done to the turbo, and it's an FP race manifold

If you have a good set of oem coils, try switching it and see if problem is still there.

I see that now. Your pull started later than most, so it shifted curve a bit to the right.

For a while, FP sold a version with the smaller turbine housing. I had one. Mine was based off the 6.5 TME turbo. Downside was less peak power, bright side was crazy spool with the smaller housing and titanium exh wheel. I prefer my current setup, though.

^^ Yep. It can be catastrophic.

If you are not using OEM coil packs, I'd recommend swapping back. If you are, maybe they are tired (unlikely, but possible). Any way to swap on another set to test? I'm told porting our heads do more damage than good, but I have no personal experience.

I always start at 2500rpm. Starting at 3250 could explain things. Lighter load and that means only it only took 950rpm to get to 20psi. I assume that would affect the torque curve, too.
On the bright side, with that Evo 8 hot side, you should see crazy fast spool, so that's pretty nice.

Also, the current 71hta is actually a 68mm. Didn't they offer a real 71mm in their earlier versions?

after seeing these results i'm not sure how i feel lol, my car is on 93oct about 26psi tapers to 23 up top taking it to 7500, i'm on a street tune but i've laid waste to cars that are between 400-450whp rwd cars, even beat a 530whp E93. if you guys are touching 480whp on e85 i think i'm probably around 400whp then haha. i'll get mine dynotuned to see if we can add some more timing and a little more boost.

You probably have a fat low/mid range powerband like ours on E85. 93 octane is nice bump from 91 but our tunes keep boost to 22 psi on 91 for safety. How do you like your M2 cams? I have a MIVEC set sitting in living room I'm planning to sell. Not sure what they're worth...$200?

l love them, they idle smooth and apparently make decent power, i see full boost around 3000rpm if not sooner! I’ve never really looked into pricing on them as i bought my car with them but coming from Hondas, $200 for cams is a steallll hahah (cams for my civic were $750 used)

I recall seeing 8 degrees at peak boost (28psi) in my logs.

Sorry, when I said up top, I was referring to 28psi boost. I fixed earlier post.
