Electrical Gremlins - symptoms and how to fix
OK I have the dash lights one and car cranks but no ignition. Sometimes when it does start it won't shut-off unless i disconnect the battery.
Well I just got done hard wireing a connection and IT WAS CORRODED. So I sodered and everything. I only did hardwiring on the wires that were corroded but not the entire connection.
Thinking I have solved the problems it is still occuring. I can't start the car. It cranks but no ignition. And all the dash lights are still on. Seriously I dunno what else to do? Should I have hardwired the entire connection and not just the corroded ones?

*update* so i decided to do the whole connection and now I have no problems. Like new again.

Why not just make a paste of Baking Soda and water then use a fine long bristle wire brush or a drain cleaner and get the corrosion off of the connectors? Or even use a premade solution FOR corrosion on electronic connectors. Then use a corrosion inhibitor on the connectors as you put them back on?
Doesn't that sound easier?
I guess to each their own. I did this. Works much better than all that work.
Your method is repainting the car each time their is dirt on it. I just wash mine. Lol
Nice write up though.
PS: Soaking the connectors is key, and it works like a charm. Or did for me.

That is a good way of puttin it but in my case they were so corroded that the pins on the other side broke off as soon as it was unplugged. I guess if you don't have broken pins that would work but in my case it wouldn't have.

In the above instances cleaning connectors up is not going to do jack ****. Plus if you don't seal the grommet then it is all for nothing anyway.
Is there to test where the fault is?. How do you know the wiper motor is getting power? Mine makes a very feint humming noise and no wiper action! This sucks!

When i activate my wipers, or sprayer, i can hear and feel the front fusebox ECU vibrating rapidly. Does this sound like any thing else can be wrong? Neither the wipers nor the spray works right now.(box can be heard buzzing immenently since I opened the hood)
so i had mine rewired by a friend who owns a car audio shop. but it seems new problems came up...
*my rear driver window doesnt work.
*new elight, po455 evap system vent control circuit.
*rear reverse/brake and 3rd brake lights dont work. (on drivers side)
im going back to have him do the whole plug as he only did the ones that looked bad. also i wanna look at the body harness running along the drivers side doors.

so i started taking all the trim parts out with my panel popper, as i was getting ready to pull the whole carpet out...
you see that white block connector holder, the body harness behind it was left unplugged by the guy that did the rewiring....
all these things work again.. still need to confirm the elight.
