David- What's keeping you from offering a ballbearing upgrade?

You obviously have the machining capabilites & your already going to balance the new assembly??

How does the stock 16g6 compressor housing outlet size or entire snail for that matter differ from a 20g? What other machining work is required to the compressor housing besides accomidating for the larger wheel?

I have seen pictures of what was claimed to be a 16g & a 20g, the 20g looks bigger. I am not certain what version 16g housing it is, std vs big 16g.

That is why I ask.

Probably just tradition. Their 16G/20G hybrid turbo for the DSM's spools just as quick as a regular 16G, so the added cost of going BB isn't really worth it and will probably make it a $2k turbo.

No way to make the TD05H turbo cartridge accept a ballbearing upgrade, no room in it. Also with a turbo that spools this fast there is not need for it.

The compressor housing and backplate have to be machined to fit the larger compressor wheel.

Also, the last stock appearing turbo that we tried was NOT a 20g compressor wheel.

Some of the British turbo outfits apparently fit a Garret ball bearing cartridge into the titanium 16g if I understand correctly. What do they do differently?

If I understand things correctly, they machine the turbo to accept the ball bearings. And like 4G63>0000 said, yes it does approach the 2000 dollar mark for that turbo. The MLR guy does it...his screen name is 400 something...

Thanks. So it's doable but pricey.

But what is the point, the 20g spools almost like stock, 500 rpms later than stock is more than fine with me if i can get 450 awhp.

Bad news from the turbo shop today. The wheels came in and they were not the correct size. I guess they are more the size of an 18g wheel, which I never liked. They did produce the 5 they promised but not to the proper specs.

As of now I don't know what is going to happen. It's already been a year since this started, this is the closest we have been on it.

More news to come soon. I will keep you guys posted. Here I put our RS on the dyno today in hopes of getting one of these myself to test.

Don't back down now David! This has been the most anticipated product ever for the Evo. People have been looking for something of this nature since before anyone even took delivery of the first Evos. You created a legacy with the DSM crowd... now it is carrying over to the Evo crowd.

We aren't giving up, I have a wheel on it's way here to give to a local guy that says he can make them. Hopefully with a total of three shops all working on the same project someone will actually get the job done. Yes, you read right, there are currently TWO manufacturers trying to produce this wheel for us.

For anyone interested we have the Standard TDO5H-16G, 10.5 turbine housing with the lightweight turbine wheel for $975. This turbo can be upgraded to the 20G later if you want to or you can just have this much faster spooling turbo with more top end power now.

This turbine wheel is a factory built Mitsubishi part, so the strenght I am going to have to guess is no issue at all.

David,

How much extra to add the new larger MR compressor housing (Mitsu PN: MD613567) to your $975, TDO5H-16G, 10.5 turbine housing with the lightweight turbine wheel?

I have not checked on the larger compressor cover for the MR turbo to be honest. I will leave myself a note and aske next time I'm on the phone with the turbo shop.

Dave, I have one of the new MR compressor covers.. I was going to send the titanium cartridge, new compressor cover, old style 10.5 turbine housing when you get the new 20G wheels done.. I can arrange to ship the parts out to you if you want to go over them and compare it..

Honestly these turbo parts are sitting in a box in my office right now, and I was planning on sending this stuff to you to have the turbo built with the 20G wheel when you announce their official availability.. Let me know if we can work something out, I have no problem being a guinea pig for this new setup.

As far as I can tell, the new compressor cover has a slightly larger radial slot and interior volume compared to the early compressor cover. I really want to prove that a hybrid twin scroll turbo has huge potential in an evo.. Plus its stealthy.

I don't need the parts, just hold on to them until I finally get these wheels in.

I appreciate the offer.
