Actually, you could not have been more off base... the radiator is not even there. It was about 15-20ft away at the time, leaving much more clearance than appears in the photo. No bent fins allowed in my garage

What are the basic gaskets that need to be replaced to install one of these? Mine arrives early next week and I want to know what to get in the way of extra parts. Thanks.

You couldn't tell by looking at it, but long story short, make sure you check the wastegate actuator rod for the appropriate amount of pre-tension.

Remove the retaining clip, it's probably either a C clip or a pin. Make sure the distance between the eye of the rod and where it attaches is about 2mm or so, or just compare it to your stock setup.

Mine showed up with no pre-tension at all and that will yeild you sluggish boost that taps out at ~12psi. If you re-install the lower heat shield you're kinda screwed on getting back to that rod with the radiator in the car. In fact, if you do plan to re-install the lower heat shield you should notch it so that you can pull it out without removing the O2 sensor. A pair of tin snips should do the trick.

I figured I'd chime in as no one wants to spend time working on their car then have to diagnose what's wrong with the brand new part. Had I known this step I would have been a much happier person, as would my original radiator.....

I bought it from the vendor who started this thread! Mistakes happen, and considering you're getting a turbo that's not coming from Mitsu I felt it would behoove anyone buying this thing to check this before they install it as it only takes a couple minutes out of the car, much longer when it's in the car.

I, and many others, recommend re-using the stock gaskets. I would get yourself some spare studs though, as the stock ones can break. It would be a good idea to coat all the bolts and nuts with some WD40 the night before you start your install.

I have a 6.5 TME TiAL turbo that I upgraded with the same 2005 compressor and turbine housings used on the WR. It is still going to cost me $895 to get if converted to a WR! I'll have to see some significant performance gains from the WR over my current setup to justify that much money.

You can reuse the original gaskets (but why not replace them if you can?) everywhere except on the oil return... both at the turbo cartridge and oil pan they have a tendency to tear (later models have metal gaskets at the oil pan though). So at the least, I suggest everyone buy a new gasket for both ends of the oil return.

...I'm sure someone will have a story about how their's came off just fine... well, come back a dozen or so swaps later, and tell me what you find.

BTW you will save yourself a lot of grief ordering both sets of studs for the install.

Anyone have part numbers for those studs and oil return line gaskets?

This has been discussed at length on these forums, a search should get you what you need. Do a search for threads started by me, I think someone told me the part numbers at some point. You want the thread titled "not so bolt on as they say" or something like that.

Zeus was right on the money about the oil return line gaskets. I tore mine at the oil pan and had to make a new one with gasket material, not the optimal fix but one that works. You should absolutely get the studs, nuts, and those gaskets. Some folks get the little crush washers too, I reused mine. I still contend that re-using the stock manifold to turbo and turbo to O2 housing gaskets are probably better than the ones that are included in the kits. Just my opinion.

Just to be clear, I only suggest, and use OE gaskets on the manifold/turbo/O2 assembly... I would absolutely reuse an OE gasket before using any of the cheap ones that come with some of the manifolds etc.

Hm, I just recently put on a new 10.5 hotside (about a month ago). If I get the WR comp wheel soon, would you guys recommend getting new studs still?

Apparently there's another vendor who came out with their own mutant bunny...

Mutant bunny

As you can see, the parts were sourced from many different places, only I don't think their execution worked quite as well..
