You can. Go over to mitsubi****echinfo.com and sign up for a two month trial... it will get you access to the shop manual on line.

Just be prepared for possible warranty refusal if the you have to go in for a clutch problem. I know, it shouldn't have any bearing..... and I always do my own work when possible... but until I get this decel noise issue worked out I'm not touching a freakin thing so they can't pull any of that "well you screwed it up by changing the adjustment when you should have brought the car into us" crap.

You may want to just try bleeding the clutch first... I know my breaks need a good bleeding and have since I got the car so I'll be doing the breaks and clutch when I get a power bleeder.

I want to change out the tranny fluid and transfer case fluid, but I don't know what weight of oil to use, and the dealer doesnt know jack either. I posted a new topic on this board, but havent got any answers back from anyone.

Perhaps someone on this forum knows what and how much type of gear oil to put in the tranny and transfer case? I know the trans case has an oil cooling additive in it, so that may be difficult to get a hold of, the OEM version anyway....
Techinfo has all that info man... go sign up. If you are REALLY LAZY and whine enough I'll get it for ya

Transaxle oil dm3 (qt)
Gear oil API classification GL-4 SAE 75W-85W or 75W-90
2.8 (2.9qt)

Transfer oil dm3 (qt)
Hypoid gear oil API classification GL-5 SAE90
0.55 (0.58qt)

lol i just printed this info off of the mitsutech web site!!! It sucks though, says the "free" trial ends tomorow, the 30th! Sucks because that site kicks ****.....

Thanks though MadVIII! Im having the tranny and transfer flushed at the dealer tomorow. I dont have a lift, and if you jack the car up it will be very unlevel, and you wont be able to fill the tranny or transfer up correctly. So I opted to give the Stealers $30 to swap the fluids for me

Trans failure

Sorry to see that I'm not the only one with trans problems. I have only had my new EVO for 72 hours when I took it back to the dealer because it was grinding the gears from 4th to 5th. The dealer told me they needed to replace the 5th gear, syncros and shafts. But they don't have all the parts in the states. So I'm without the car for 2-3 weeks.
But they did give me a 2003 Cavalier rental to drive.

The EVO Tech at my dealer works on DSM's so he has the dealership use BG Syncroshift II or whatever... hes going to put that in the tranny then the OEM fluid in the Transfer, which is yea 90weight =)

cool man, be interesting to see if the Syncroshift cuts down on the decel noise... I kinda doubt it but it's worth a shot. I did find out that mine and several other trannies that have been replaced were shipped direct from Japan for whatever thats worth.

Dude,

I bet most of the probelms folks are having with these brand new cars are from the dealers driving the cars or the techs driving the cars before they go on the lot and ******* the **** out of them... either that or they skipped Quality Control to get them on the streets before the STI.

Mine had 34 on it. My buddy road with the dealer to put gas in it while I was doing my paperwork..... cause he was talking **** about smoking some mustang in one a couple days before... so he went along to make sure the dude didn't f anything up on mine.

Good luck with the fluid change... hope it helps and let us know what if any difference it makes..

I have the same drivetrain noises, or whatever they are, as everyone else and my car had 5 miles on it at delivery. I doubt they went out and beat on it in that short time.

lol.

My noise has really seemed to decline! Instead of the harsh grinding its now down to kind of a Brrr....Brrr....Brrr.... sound during decel. The noise kind of cuts in and out, if that makes sense but its definately not AS loud or frightening as it was before heheh.... I will let you know how the fluid swap does! Im going in today at 3pm... Im not doing the transfer case, just the tranny...

wkehn, Spyderturbo... you guys have open cases with mitsu america right??

My biggest issue with this problem is that the dealers/techline keep telling people that the syptoms are normal etc etc.... It simply cannot be. I can see a batch of cars with the issue but not every f'ing evo, which the other thread about those that don't have the issue kinda helps illustrate.

Yea, we all need to have OPEN cases with ****shubishi. I agree too, everyone is from Techline is speaking too quickly, they need to actually diagnose the problem..

mad,...Mitsubishi does have the noise noted under my VIN when I called a while back. I also have a dealer visit in and have it printed on paper that the noise is normal. I just crossed 2000 miles today and its definitely still there. But it doesn't seem to have gotten any worse thats for sure. Its definitely not any louder...could be a tad quieter also.

It is good to see your sticking your neck out and trying to get the issue put to rest. My only fear in all honestly is.....leaving the car at the dealer and having them start ripping apart my EVO. If a TSB does eventually come out documenting where the noise is coming from and whether or not its fixable or if its normal. Thats what will ultimately impact my decision on wheter of not to take the car back in.

But for now....I'm just gonna wait and see.

But I'm glad your one of the few EVO owners pushing to get this resolved.
I'm very interested in what the outcome of your situation is going to be. I know its gotta be very frustrating for ya.....but hang in there dude.
