It's hard to believe there is this much effort in this thread. We have a 3" downpipe that fits absolutely perfectly, mandrel bent stainless, no lighter downpipe on the market. It's on my daily driver that runs 9.77 at 148 mph so obviously it flows as I have our full 3" exhaust on my car. The downpipe is $275 and fits all EVO7's, 8's and 9's.

Supporting many of these other half assed companies that have been brought up in this thread makes no sense (not all of them are half assed). In a few more years most of the companies will be gone from the scene and for the few that are still around they will have moved on to the next "HOT" car and dropped the EVO line. Believe it as this has been the way it has been for the last 18 years of us doing the 4G63. Other companies come and go, you support goes with them. We are still here doing the same thing............

Here are two crappy pics of the Perrin 3" DP on a friends IX. The pipe fits BEAUTIFULLY! No rubbing or false knock

Me comfortably fitting my finger between the DP and oil pan

Oh it clears perfectly believe me. We just had his car up on a lift the other day to change his rear diff/tc/tranny fluids and there were no rub marks anywhere

Megan Racing 3" V2 Downpipe (with no flex section) fits my 06 TB GSR perfectly with no rubbing and clears all of the components. No RATTLES!

ok, so i got new information from the WORKS people. they are saying the whole 2.75" and 3" debate varies between the Evo 8 and the Evo 9. They are claiming for low power applications, the 3" loses low-end torque on the Evo 8. On the Evo 9, on the other hand, MIVEC technology prevents, or at least, significantly minimizes the low-end torque loss for the 3" pipe. What do you guys think?

Also, if its the case that 3" loses low-end torque, is it better to just stick with the stock downpipe?

Definitely go with 3". Here's a review on the DP that I just purchased:

I say go 3", I've done back to back to back to back testing with 2.5" and 3" downpipes and there is NO downside to going 3". None.

Thanks for the quick response, David. I decided to get an aperature throttle body upgrade, just in case... I heard that it gives an increase in low-end torque and spooling.

i run a 3" buschur downpipe on my Evo IX, it has a stock turbo and it's an absolute torque monster. Dyno'd at 406 whp and 448 ft lbs on a mustang dyno with stock cat back. Also from previous dyno results, I removed the catback and gained about 10whp across the entire powerband with no change in spool up. So who say's go with a 2.5/2.75 for more low end torque than the 3"... I just don't any benefit in doing so. Oh and the Buschur downpipe fits perfectly, no rubbing anywhere.
