Like everything else, its taking longer than expected for another part... the actual welding of all the tubes is taking ALOT longer than I originally anticipated. I spent at least 8 hours yesterday and another few today and I think I might have hit the halfway mark. Im still hoping to get a jig made up for the front end by the end of the weekend but we will see.

The red 1g is also at almost the same stage as mine. The chassis should be tacked up by the end of the week so my best guess is both cars will be done near the same time. Kinda neat watching these things grow into real cars again.

you guys have some ***** to go with a project like that but looks like you will do a great job..... only thing that seems funny to me is the ride height??? will that be a problem that high off the ground???? or will it be lower??

Its probably a little too late to ask this, but don't they check the wall thickness of your chassis/roll cage to certify it? I hope you have a up to date rulebook to make sure your not doing all of this for nothing . But besides that it looks amazing!!

Yes they could sonic check (Amongst other ways I presume) the wall thickness of the tubes. Yes they are all up to date wall thickness and diameter or greater.

Those pics arent the ride height. I never measured the stock ride height but the new ride height to the frame is < 6.88". The side skirts are a good 2+ inches lower than the frame.... it rides pretty close to the ground. I also havent finished the front end yet so I can adjust the ride height as much as I really want. The rear has around 9" of adjustment.

Sorry for the lack of pics but I never seem to have a camera around and spend more time welding then playing with pictures Ill get some pics of the frame and try to find more pics of it when it was 1/2 assembled.

Well Vassil got a bunch of pics uploaded to his site of our cars so here is a link to mine with the body sitting on it for the test fit:

http://www.eclipserwd.com/gallery/sh...ry.php/cat/506

Here are some newer pics of the chassis being welded... its sitting upsidedown in these pics and he flipped the pics.. kida tough to make sense of it all but at least its something Ill take more pics that make more sense later:

And here are some newer pics of his 1G getting all tacked up:

Im ordering Buschur's midplate and flexplate tomorrow so I should have an engine / transmission mock up shortly.

You might as well put a small block V8 with a 47R in this car and let her rip. $hit i would.

Exactly what I was thinking. This is no different than any other domestic (tube framed) V8 dragster. Why settle for a 4 cylinder when you can just have 8? This is already no longer an Evo, so you won't be able obtain bragging rights for the fastest evo and you might as well go for the gold and strap in a 454 or LS1, or something equally ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, this project is both interesting and educational, but I am not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish. You could have just tube framed a DSM and made it RWD or just bought a mustang or chevy and not completely torn apart a 20k-30k $ sports car.

This project is awesome!

I noticed you are from Winona, MN. Where do you plan on running your car? (Which track)

Goodluck!

Why a V8? There is no reason this car couldn't run 7's with a 4G63 pushing it down the track.

What are your goals for both cars? Do you plan on using nitrous?
