My Winter Project... 25.1E RWD Evo 8
Thanks though! And yes, I will drive it on the street limited. Very limited. I plan on licensing it as a kit car to bypass as many laws as I can. If nothing else Ill just drive it to local events.
I rent out a garage with two other guys (Vassil - owner of the red 1g in many pictures and Jake - owner of a 2g thats getting tubed out to a Pro Mod type level). One of them is almost always around to help hold stuff, measure stuff, etc. I also get alot of help on the notching of the tubes.... I am not the greatest at it... I suppose I drink too much or am too impatient. Not sure. A few other local guys around town stop by alot also and I can always steal them to help me if I need it so it works out well.
All of you guys are playing a part in this thing... if nothing else you keep me motivated to get more and more done on it
Well I finished the font end suspension. To the best of my abilities and tools I bought, the camber, caster, toe, track width and ride height are exactly where I wantres them within 1/16 of an inch and .25 degrees (Ill get an alignment shop to do the rest). Im happy.... no more thinking about placement of stuff... if it fits and looks good Ill roll with it, Im also kinda drunk so tjhat helps. The bad part is you wont get pics until tomorrow. The only pics I have of the front suspension is with all the mock up stuff (Including 'Billit' spring spacers, etc..) Ill post hose tomorrow but I wont have the complete front end pics until i get the rest of the hiem joints and some other misc parts I needed and apprently bought the wrong kind. Anyways.. Ill post them tomorrow. Good news is the next set of pics of this should be of an engine and tranny mounted or the tin work

I have a liter cbr1000 engine sitting here of which I'd love to have a lil track worthy kart out of
Wow so you are basically building a car! with Evo exterior. Wow...
I don't think you can get the licensed since you built it and you never did emission +crash test and bunch of other stuff, Just pretend like it's a factory Evo with Roll Cage upgraded

but how do you verify that amount? mileage? last time I calibrated an Autometer speedo, I could screw things up all I want on speed, and therefore mileage. Or just swap out guages if there ever comes time for an investigation.
Okay here's my take on this..
1) This is a fantastic project, demonstrating an unbelievable amount of skill (Aquired while doing this) and guts to be different.
2) Its really not an Evo anymore, at least in Spirit.. It'll still be a turbo 4g63 race car, but it not an evo. Why? Because you can in theory drop ANY body on the car and it changes nothing about whats under the skin.
Its not so much the body style that makes it an Evo, although that is part of it. The Evolution is AWD, Big Brakes, Is quick, handles turns, has Recaros, Brembos, Etc.. Once all of those things are removed, it stops being a true Evo to me.
This takes NOTHING away from the project!!! And Please stop criticizing him for building an amazing car like this.
When we watch racing, we rarely complain that top-fuel funnycars have absolutely nothing in common with the cars they are patterned after.
You can classify the car based on racing rules also, this car retains almost nothing stock other than the sheet metal, so its a tube frame race car, patterned in the image of an Evolution.. F'ing awesome! I can't wait to see it run!
I wish I had the ***** to learn my skills by just doing it.. Cutting up a car and starting with little more than some patterns laid out and some rough skills to start with. THIS IS WHAT MAKES THIS AN AMAZING PROJECT.. The fact that its got an Evo body, and an Evo engine, just makes it all that much cooler.

If the car has a VIN# and Insurance, has all required lights and safety equipment, and passes your state inspection, it technically doesn't have any restrictions unless the Manufacturers Certificate of Origin has set limitations on it. For instance, the MCO for one of the 1968 Hurst Hemi Darts would be "For Competition or Exhibition Use only" The car could be titled, and in some states registered, but it wouldn't be technically legal to drive it every day.
The more I think about it the more I think Im going to dual register it anyways. It is obviously still registered and titled and the law doesnt know the difference of what it is today vs 7 months ago. I will keep this registration just for the bling bling factor.
As for as the licensing I will use on the street, I need to look into it. I know for a fact there is some registration I could use to make it "legal" to drive on the street. I still need to find another set of rims and tires for the rear to make it somewhat driveable on the street and not tear up the tires. The other problem is the stall I will have in the car. Im not sure how well the TQ convertor will take being driven around and never reaching stall.
Im going to make the car run at the track. Once thats done Ill see about making it somewhat driveable on the street. Not like Ill drive it on a freeway or anything but to cruise town would be fun.
And yes Jack is correct. As far as racing is concerned it is a full tube chassis car obviously. The name and body of the car is just for show and appearance. The class I run only cares that the wheelbase is within 10" of stock. The front clip can only be extended to something like 45" over the front axles and the windshield angle can only be modified something like 3 deg. NHRA needs to come and inspect the chassis to certify it (I will also get to install a plate with the manufacturers name, date of manufacture and my Vin... #001 sounds pretty cool) and need to inspect my body to add the body 'style' to thier accepted list. Vassil needs to do the same thing with his 1G as there are no cars with our bodies in the classes we wish to run (Im assuming Buschur got the second gens accepted a long time ago).
