Doing this project helped me learn all sorts of crap:

You will never be bored when making one of these.... if you get bored you can always work on the car.

I also learned that you need exorbanant amounts of money to finish one of these with absolutley no financial backing. Its bad when $500 parts seem incredibly cheap.

Lastly, you learn afterthought truly is a b1tch. There are MANY things that I learned there could have been an easier, faster or cheaper way to do it. In fact almost everything on the car I have now found quicker and easier ways to repeat it... even the welding I just found a different size cup that made life twice as easy. Simple differences make worlds of difference. Like the scotch pads I used originally I replaced with a powered scotch brush... sped up the pipe cleaning at LESAT 10x and you didnt need to sweat while doing it The gas saver cup should save a few tanks of argon. Its nuts on how much argon these things drink while welding. A new design of chassis stands would have made life easier. A pulley system for raising and lowering the body could have helped tremendously.... You get the idea.

The next one of these I build should go much easier and faster, Ill tell you that one.

Buying a shell of an Evo would have made more sense but I would also have to do a bunch of bodywork on it that way. Still would have been much cheaper though yes.

I did get the engine and transmission in the car today. Buschurs plate worked perfect to mount the engine to the tranny. I need to cut a little more out so I can raise the motor to where I want it but it looks like it will clear the hood. Not positive but it looks like it will.

I forgot to take pics but I will soon. Its just a mockup engine and tranny for now but everything should be the same when I put in the real stuff. Its amazing on how little room I now have for my feet... The gas pedal will almost be rubbing on the trans tunnel for it to feel ok.

The steering, rear end and the rest of the brake componants should be sent tomorrow so there should be a bunch of updates shortly!

For street tires just go with a set of old VW/new 15" fronts and a set of Micky Thompson 14.5 by 32's for the rear, both are street legal.

Well I mocked up the engine and transmission pretty close to its final placement. Im hoping to get the engine and trans mounts done in the next day or two. The parachute also turned out really nicely so that is pretty much a done deal. The pedals and steering column will hopefully be here early next week. The good news is Im 95% sure the engine clears the hood with 1/2" or so of clearance! I was really happy about that one.

I also plan on getting the car certified next weekend so we will see how that turns out. I followed everything to a T so it should pass with flying colors for 25.1 (7.50 seconds or quicker).

Figured this needed some newer pics:

Im gonna try to make the side two engine mounts and the trans mount today. Also gonna work on the tabs to mount the aluminum and parachute handle and cable.

Still waiting for my brake stuff, pedals and steering column though. I hope they get here this week.
