auto shifts faster and more consistant than any human ever will besides maybe a sequential.

watch the AMS evo run every shift it looks like it falls on its face. how it is now with an AT id bet AMS could run 8.1s or close to it.

Im not denying AT's are good for certain applications, but I contend that a sequential box with a strong clutch setup would be better for a motor suited to higher rpm power, running lower on torque by comparison.

Im sure either way it will be one evil car, I just can see it with 5 levers in the center console, taching 10k at the line.

I didnt read back through the thread, what were the engine choices anyways?

I guess I totally missed the boat if shes running a big 6 or an 8....LOL

Its still a 2.0

Right now i have no engine setup. Worse case, if no one ponies up to help me out Ill use my friends old but reliable decently built DSM engine.

The reason for an automatic is a few. The biggest being cost. The transmission I 'should' be using would be a G-force or Liberty. For $7-$10k more its not an option for me. That would rob less HP and could be geared better to suit me. The gearing I went with now will run at right around 200 mph at 10K RPMs in top gear. The first bunch of passes, if Im lucky, Ill get around 160 but I wanted to make sure I had room to grow when the times comes. Getting off the line will also be much easier I am hoping with an automatic, at least until I get used to lifting the front (Hopefully). A trans brake, nitrous and a high stall will make it all or nothing when it comes to launching. It 'should' be an easier way for me to get into the times I plan to run.... if the car runs well and lays down decent times I think getting a G-Force or Liberty or similair will be the way to go.

My intake manifold never came into production due to cost. I could not find a decent place to make the molds and everything I would need. I am in touch with a friend of mine which works for a core company so I may be designing another version shortly. I will also be forced into fabricating my personal intake manifold from sheet aluminum for this car due to space constraints so I will get used to doing that and will probably make a few for sale to help soak some of the cost of this damned project. Same goes with headers. After welding this entire chassis from nothing, welding tubes when I can twist and turn them to suit me makes it a joke to weld. Should have some nice looking things coming soon!

Lastly, the car is just about complete. The company I work for will be donating me all his tooling and aluminum for the car so I should have it mostly tinned very shortly. I welded up almost all of the front end supports to hold the fenders and hood and whatnot. Welded up some body supports for the rear bumper and misc stuff back there so everything now bolts on and is sturdy. I need to make a fuel cell cage and make small brackets from aluminum to hold the fuel pump and other small trinkets (Like the battery) and do some wiring but its extremely close. Depending on how things go it may run in two weeks depending on how long I spend making a new oil pan, header and intake manifold. Also depends if my local ties will bring me a transmission to use, TQ convertor and if someone lends me out a turbo

Ill get some pics hopefully early next week of the car tinned, rolling and finally washed and buffed!

Trina, much respect. Sounds like you bit off a bit more than you could chew!

Just messing with you. Really, the auto makes the most logical sense. But in the future I'd like to see that car with a hot, one-off engine and 5 speed lenco tranny. But thats just about 40 grand worth of race motor....

I had a thought, and I dare not post it on this forum...I remember RnR was entertaining the idea of punching out a 2.4 liter motor to a 2.7. I emailed Brian Crower to see if they could or would in fact concoct a bulletproof rotating assembly for just such an application. they havent gotten back to me yet, as I expected.

Anyways, Ive been researching for a wrecked EVO, no drivetrain necessary. Im planning on incorporating a business soon and going full tilt with it after I finish school. I recently lost my father (not digging for sympathy, just a fact LOL) and considering the circumstances, I have quite a background of support to do just such a thing. if this happens and I can pull off this one-off stroker, maybe in the future I'll have a motor to donate. But these thoughts aren't worth anything...yet...just hashing out a pipe dream. When I make it happen, I'll keep you posted. Until then, keep kicking butt with the car.

You know that if no one gives you a motor I'll build one up and give it to you. No need to worry about that!

You did a good job on the chassis, if you need help tinning it, let me know... I'm usually around doing nothing.

The main reason I would do it is because he is a friend, I know how much work has been put into this car as I have helped him with it when needed.

I have a complete fuel setup as well that I've already mentioned you can borrow/use until you get one seeing my car probably wont run this year.

The advertisement would just be an added bonus.

I bet spool will make this tricky, ya think you might have to go through many different turbos?

507...thats really awesome to see....I can't wait to see the results from this car.

After really thinking how a turbo car reacts to power braking an auto transmission, I'd say its actually a good choice....spooling a turbo with a clutch style transmission requires redline and even nitrous in some case, like most of the pro street cars....

Take an automatic supra or any turbo automatic tranny car and power brake it, watch how smoothly and strongly the turbo comes up, like a Grand National for instance......

Im not worried about spool. Automatics will keep the spool as long as the shift points are correct. Ill be shifting it around 9.5k which would put the next gear well within range of the turbo to stay spooled. Getting off the line it will be spooled Im sure well enough to get a very hard launch to say the least. Nitrous and 5,500 of max load from the stall should build more than enough boost it will need.

And Ill let ya know for sure about that modr and fuel system for sure!

Well I had some rough things to get through the past while but I think Im getting back on track. I plan on tinning the vehicle hopefully this weekend. I have all the aluminum and everything I need so its just a matter of actually doing it.

I have a transmission builder ready to make me a tranny so Im getting closer to making it move Hopefully Ill have some updates early next week.
