IX Engine idle noise (belt?) (video)
changed #8 #9 and the engine mount that they attach to. also changed the idler pulley for the timing belt. if you look, the timing belt is rubbing on the ckp sensor blade. it is riding too far back. change these parts to change the alignment. the timing belt should start tracking farther out, noise goes away. you will have to remove the p/s pump and bracket to get the engine mount out.
I just change those parts and my mechanic told me the parts were different from what he ordered and what was on the car. Meaning Mitsubishi knew their mistake and corrected it with updated parts. If your having this timing belt issue, order a new engine mount and idler pulley it comes as a set from Mitsubishi.
For a detailed description call 201-385-1003 speak to Narvin (owner of ATX Motorsports) He can explain exaclty what happened.

You know if so many Evo 9's are making this noise is it at all possible it is just a "trait" of the car? I have read that the Timing belt is a different material on the 9, also with that MIVEC System and all, now lets just imagine everyone going in, getting new belts tensioners and all, and bam 15K later, same noise. So what is worse case scenerio? You drive the car and the timming belt breaks? Valve goes through the Piston and you get a whole new engine for free? I mean Damn. I just cant see it happening to this many people, then seeing people "get it fixed" then for it only to come back 10-15K later. So what to do? I don't want some Mitsubishi Monkey working on my car unless its a HAS TO. Know what Im saying, knowing my sorry dealer they will say its normal anyway. So your thoughts on this? And Merry Christmas to you guys and gals, thats right your not getting a "Happy Holidays" from me.....That is the Political way of saying, Merry Christmas!!!

ON ANOTHER NOTE:::::: READ
All my block assesory such as pulleys, brakets came off of my Evo 8 block, so i think it might have something else causing the lower parts to start doing this.

I don't think its just the belt...as common practice especially warranty work they will replace the tensioner as a precaution...I feel the tensioner is the culprit and when it fails the belt starts reacting accordingly. some people go and get everything replaced..but what gets me is the noise comes back..so if that's the case we are just putting band aid on this issue..so lets fix a defective part with another defective part? have some monkey fing up your ride in the process? that's why I have not done anything yet...I don't know man its troubling yes but serious? anyone can answer that let me know...
I get the same noise.. It's from the belt. (not timing) When it gets colder outside, the spring tensioner can't hold the belt tight enough. That's why it goes away when the motor is warm..
As for the T-belt.. Last time I check from all DSM and Evos timing belts are all the same. Part number.

I think its narrowed down to the Tensioner Pully for the source of the noise, Timing belt and sensor all together, some people experiences noise due to cold belts is a totally different noise. This noise is when everything is warm. Its just its hard to isolate. That is my problem. I mean for us, owners of Evo's we know the sound of "normal". I don't think most mechanics know what "normal" Evo sounds are. So you take it to your Dealer and the Monkey there scratches his head like, uh that is normal. But you know its not. See thats the thing. haha. Sometimes you can really hear it, even inside the car, and then you don't hear nothing. It really sounds like a belt issue, but its not, as far as accessories go, I have drive a LONG way to a Mits dealer and dont want to be brushed off and waste a day off work and gas money to drive 260 mile round trip. So, if I just leave it what is the worse possible thing? That is what I am saying. If you have a Mits dealer down the street or you know Joe Blow that can fix any Mits on planet earth, good for you, but what about the ones out there like me that don't know a Joe Blow, and the Closest Dealer is over 130 miles away. Not that I don't care I do, but if it is just a noise and nothing more I can live with it. If it is something that will not harm the car and is just that a "noise" can I just leave it?

The engine mount and pulley kit from Mitsubishi was around $150.00. The install was around $400-$500. I didnt want to bring it to the dealership just because They would most likely lie to me and charge me much more. At ATX Motorsports they tell you exactly what the problem is and are honest about how much time it took to do a job.
