Intake manifold testing.
The only thing we are concerned about and Dave is as well (he has mentioned it) is that the test is already tainted before it even starts as the hypertune requires a larger throttle body.
So If the Hypertune does make more power we won't know if its from a better design or from the larger TB. I can tell you right now that Ours and most others tested would of made more power with a 3" throttle body

I don't think you have anything to prove! There is no reason to say the test results will be off because of the 3" TB or anything. You make a great product and everybody knows it. Your product is on the fastest EVO's in the WORLD! From these results it obviously makes more power then stock and thats all that counts!

There is no sense in fighting over all this. Both of you guys made a good product, the product performs and makes power. Like it has been mentioned throughout this thread results are going to change from vehicle to vehicle. AMS might make more power on one car and the DI might make more power on the next. Bottom line is they are so close i think you both should be happy with the results and move on!
BTW: Now would be the time to offer a Group Buy or some kind of sale on all these intake manifolds. This thread has caught allot of attention all over and you are going to start seeing sales go up but with the competition now its going to come down to price points IMO.

you made it ugly when you came on here and made your claims.
Our plenum volume is roughly 260ci , yours looks larger from the pictures. Like I said I could have been wrong.
I'm still waiting for you to look at the dyno curves Dave posted and show me how your power band is wider when in fact ours is about 500rpm wider. waiting.....
we have another guy testing many many intake manifolds very soon. if the results become the same thing ams and DI are talking about then DI needs to btfu and go remake a new manifold. but what the hell do i know. just my opinion.
evodan2004, I don't think either company needs to "btfu" and remake their parts. The performance of both of these are very good and it is hard for even myself to call a clear winner.
I'd like to point out some differences on the installation of these two fine intakes. The DI intake manifold is designed differently. As you can see in the pictures Paul posted the TB inlet is above the runners. This put the throttle body at very close to the same height as the stock one. This actually made it possible to put our existing i/c pipe right on it. The AMS intake sits lower and the TB inlet is inline with the runners. This required our upper i/c pipe to be cut off on the lower end. Not a big deal, but something to keep in mind. I would imagine that there are other i/c pipes on the market that would require nothing at all to make them fit.
The AMS comes with pre-drilled vacuum ports on the back side of the plenum. The DI has a boss welded on it that needs to be drilled and tapped to put whatever port you want in it, it is on the bottom of the plenum.
Just a few points on each intake.
Looking forward to testing the last one and then moving on to something else. I have to get this done, my EVO X will be at the shop next week!

David,I (and many others I suppose) think that you should test the HKS Kansai manifold also.It would be very nice to see the results of this intake as many believe that it is the best intake manifold!

We have the Kansai on our drag car. I think I might pull it off on Monday and try it next. Someone send me an e-mail on Monday morning to remind me of this thought. Hell I hope we find it doesn't work well. Then we can change it and go faster with the drag car!
The cool thing about the Kansai intake is it comes with an adapter to run the stock throttle body.

I can assure any customer of mine won’t be disappointed with my product! I engineered this manifold as well as many others, to name a few: Mercedes Benz, Honda-B and K series, Ford, DSM, and the fastest BMW in the USA runs one of my manifolds! So as you can see I have plenty of experiance with manifolds and many other performance products!
I do this as my hobby because I love to make and design things the right way! I don’t cut corners and I don’t compromise!
Bottom line is that My Driven Innovations manifold made more power than AMS At less boost! Almost by 2 psi. I can guarantee that the power under the curve is same or better than theirs! If anyone has any doubts I can setup another test to show that my manifold performs better than other!
To be honest! There is waaay to much politics involved here! I understand that AMS has huge overhead (30+ people) and I’m just an individual. So what do you expect from them? They have to support their business.

After reviewing the dyno graphs of the larger intake manifolds, I would like to know if a ported stocker will lag behind an unported stocker? Its obvious that these intake manifolds make more peak power, but cause the powerband to shift over later in the rpm range.
At what point does the stocker become a restriction?

No the adapter will not work on the Hypertune.
The 65mm throttle body will gain a few hp 2-3 if I remember right if you run it on an unported intake. If you port it though then it gains almost 10 whp, if I remember right. When we port the intakes we also open up the intake manifold at the TB area to 65 mm. We also supply a new TB gasket that is also opened up. I notice some shops sell 65 mm tb's and then ship you a stock gasket, STUPID, you may as well leave the entire thing stock if you do that.
I realize Driven Innovations is not a vendor or very well known here guys but I feel he is a very good guy. He has also built a very good product. Cut him some slack. Let him and Martin to their discussion, please.
