9sec9, this is 4th, not 3rd gear correct?

9sec9, If you can attach that file you screenshot above I can make a pretty graphical map of the spool curve differences. Sometimes it's easier for people to visualize it when it's plotted.

Of critical note is the air intake temps. The FP-RED data came from the same dyno during ONE OF THE RECENT DYNO RUNS. It wasn't necessarily the final, since we were constantly making changes to boost and David was making changes to the tune as well. This may have been the 540whp run, not the final 530whp.mI guess I'm going to have to qualify everything I say from now on. If you aren't interested in Race Gas comparisons, no sense in reading any further. This was using a maximum of 37 psi on the Green and a 39.x psi run on the RED. Still, I thought some of you might be interested in comparing the temp, boost, rpm numbers. I took the time to type the data into a file and used RPMS within at least 10 rpms of each other, most closer than that. Also, as you know, the FP-RED used an intake manifold that was designed to spool up to 700 rpms later. We haven't gotten exact measurements, since we didn't dyno the exact same turbo using it, but I feel it's going to be close. Take that into consideration on the RPMvsBOOST data. Still, interesting to look at . Up to 52 degree difference in temps and Garrett has an RPM correction of 1.06 on turbo rpm, so actually, the RED's corrected RPM would be 6500 RPMS less than we observed. Sorry about the quality of the pics, but I took it from logs to xls to text to paint to crap in one easy move.

This new released data has me thinkin--- 4KIN SWEET.

Obviously this turbo can be a mini monster on built motors, but it has a MAJOR advantage on the 'average Joe' with minor bolt-ons and even the small hks cams.
Even though the turbo has definate advantages over the green and ix turbo above 7k (where improved valvetrain, ported head, and built motors live), something struck me with these figures. Average Joe can short-shift with this turbo (6900-7100rpm) and still 'land' in the powerband, sustaining over 32psi. I haven't seen a turbo that can flow 58-60lbs per minute duplicate this. This means to the guy who uses his car from day-to-day and chooses not to NLTS can still be pretty consistent with his et's and mph at the track. This data reveals just how responsive this little guy is-- 4600rpm already over 2bar? Sick.

Last but not least the intake temps-- we all know the cooler the better for elevating the threshold for detonation. These temps held stable through 'Joe's' rpm range. This turbo may still be efficient at lower boost levels with a stock cooler behind it. Hell, it might make an ebay cooler look good? Average 'Joe' blows his stock turbo and could very well replace his stock turbo with this unit-- including nothing more than a flash-- and can decide to modify with supporting mods at a later date.

I'm starting to think FP could have market this turbo as "Average Joe's bolt-on and go low 11's best bang for the buck turbo!!"... But that may be too long...lol

Great data. Thank you for sharing!!

fpRED...

4kinboost, I get in trouble when I start posting things that Average Joe doesn't care about. I had better delete it before I get into trouble. I don't necessarily want the competition, but the turbo will prove it'sself in no time.

It's true that Joe won't even gather what you posted, but good news travels fast.

Great job on this one. This will catch on faster/harder than the hta madness. This turbo has a little something for EVERYONE. Might be a hit with autox as well. Time will tell, but this turbo's the best thing that's happened to the 4g63 since the 35r. If fp can make these more available there would be even more good news.

Just my .02.

Apparently the Red's compressor wheel is an HTA design.

Even better still,,, It's a BOLT-ON hta design.

If you don't mind, I'd like to use your set-up as an example. With nothing more than a larger set of injectors, you could probably slap this turbo onto your motor and pick-up 50-60whp. Then sell your old green and injectors and recoupe more than half the money you spent!!!

I stand by what I said previously about this turbo running out of steam a bit in the upper rpm range, but that's to be expected in it's configuration. Guys with cars similar to yours will eat this turbo up.

Interesting comparison data thus far. For those of us who only get to run on 1/8th mile tracks by virtue of where we live, the Green seems to be the winner. At least through a 1st gear perspective. The Red may take over after 1st gear, but the Green is definitely kicking the crap out of the Red down low in first.

What rpm do you launch your car?

What rpm do you shift at?

What rpm does your motor 'land' on shifts?

Think-power under the curve.

It will be an interesting comparison...

As you can see the car is down about 35 whp but the chart looks much better.
Interesting, this graph looks very much like the HTA3076 at 31.5 psi tested on DB's car in the HTA3076 intro thread.

The 30r, well, the HTA3076 made 484 whp at only 22 psi. (DB's car on race gas)
The Red made 406 whp at 28 psi. (Trent's car on 93 octane)
Same dyno, same tuner, both cars fully built. So main diff is the gas. But I don't think race gas is a tremendous advantage at only 22 psi.
So what I'm thinking is maybe the HTA3076 works better than the Red at low boost for some reason. They do have entirely different turbine wheels (I guess). Maybe the Garrett turbine wheel is just really sweet when it isn't pushing so hard, and the Red turbine wheel is better when it's getting nuked.
So maybe you don't want to run 30+ psi on your car, that could be a reason for prefering the 30r.
