My point was that a car with a stock head and baby cams probably won't make much more pump-gas power on a red (or 3076) than on a green, so why trade the lag for a few hp? The whole reason the green exists is because guys didn't think the 3076 was worth the trade-offs of losing 40 to 50hp from 3000-5500 to gain 20 or 30 up top if they drive the car on the street every day.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to the red being kick-*** and hope to buy one at some point instead of a 3076. But I don't drive my car every day and will have a prepped head and some more aggressive cams very soon.

I'm not expecting a massive difference vs the green on 93 pump with or without heads/cams...I have a suspicion it's going to be governed by the turbine side more than anything else, much like the 3076. I hope I'm wrong though, that would be a nice surprise.

Well it has a larger turbine wheel than the Green, which was larger than stock to begin with, but yeah, you can only flow so much air trough the housing.

Definitely need a 10.5 housing on a Red, though I know a few guys who upgraded VIII turbos to Greens opted to keep the 9.8 hotside. Probably a bad idea with the Red if you plan to make peak power.

yeah I think a 9.8 would be a very bad idea and defeat the purpose of the Red (more big end power)

You had me at colder....

....this thread is just getting better and better!

Now where is the turbo?!?!?

so will this turbo require more fuel? are my 750's going to be enough for the red? max idc ive seen in my logs is 83%. if i can get my green to sell il be going with the red. if its all its cracked up to be, i may end up with a pump gas beast.

you should be anywhere between 95% and 100% on pump/race gas.
I'd say 750 are ok if you don't plan to run e85...

this depends from what kind of fuel pump you are running. A double pumper should reduce IDCs no matter what injectors are used right?

Yes, a double pumper would reduce IDC no matter what.

If you already have 750's, there's no harm giving it a try, but I doubt they'll have enough capacity and will definitely be maxed out. If you're already over 80% duty, you're definitely better off going with 850s or 880s.

Food for thought.
$2100 red turbo ported coated ins kit
$ 500 after market manifold
$ 200 o2 housing
$ 300 down pipe
---------
$3100 total

Just a few hundred more and you can get the BR hta 30r or hta 35r cast mani kit for $3400 if power is what you want.

its a stock turbo no need for an aftermarket manifold or a dp for that matter, all the stock stuff would work, i can see replacing the o2 housing and the downpipe but not the manifold.

$2100 red turbo ported coated ins kit +60whp or more over IX turbo.
$ 500 after market manifold <-You should arlready have a ported stocker
$ 200 o2 housing <- you should already have this
$ 300 down pipe <- you should already have this
---------
$2100 total

There, fixed your list. Why would you go for a red when you haven't already maxed out the stock setup? But then again you prolly don't have alky injection or an upgraded clutch either, so might as well add those to your list..... ...bigger injectors! Add those into the cost of the red too!

My point being, there's plenty of fun to be had with the stock turbo before you go jumping to a bigger turbo setup! This turbo is really for guys like me, I am at (or damn close) to the limit of the IX turbo, and I've already upgraded to that from my stock VIII turbo.
