We don't even get 36 miles per tank, much less 36 mpg. Must have a fuel leak. As for Robert's car running 100, I think he also has mentioned this previously in another thread. We said the same thing about a year and a half ago. To those who live in extreme heat and humidity, like 109 yesterday here, you have to use the best you can get for safety reasons. I don't even take the car to the track when it's this hot. No reason to beat the crap out of a car, run slower times, break parts and generally make a poor showing when it's not necessary. It's like 'Pump' in California isn't even 93, but 93 is easily considered pump in another area. Some areas have pump 100 readily available and in those areas, it IS pump. We call it pump here too, it's just a matter of geographic perspective. You don't have to dumb down to the lowest common denominator just because you don't pump 91. In Roberts case, it's for safety, otherwise he'd be taking advantage of the 100 and raising the psi. I think I'll sneak under his hood and make a twist or two for his 'pump gas' tune.

I don't have knock control, it is 100+F daily, and 100UL is about $1.50 more a gallon than super. My car is in perfect condition, never run into a ditch never hit a curb and never blowed up. I am going to keep it that way. My head and block VIN match my chassis and I am not going to trash this motor trying to make a gazillion HP on **** gas. If I were going to run this car solely on 91 or 93 octane fuel I would lower the boost a couple pounds to 22ish. It would cost a few HP and lower my ET and MPH slightly, but I would still get kicked out of the dragstip for not having a cage, 5pt harness and firesuit.

I am no super hero or messiah and certainly not perfect, and the results we got are not particularly impressive to be honest with you guys. Ditching some of these stock parts like the Intake manifold and air intake pipe would make even more power, but that isnt my problem. Currently the car has an excess of power and needs detuning in order to be legal at the track.

We arent trying to mislead anyone about the car or the turbo, hell the product page for the turbo isnt even on the site yet. I see these threads on the internet and I try to share some info to answer some questions, it isnt easy to take time out of the day to read here and post, but I try anyway despite the persistent "ah ha, I gotcha!" guys that keep popping up.

I think it is obvious that there are a few posters that will be negative regardless of what FP does or doesnt do. We simply are not their home team, and that is fine, it keeps life interesting.

Also, the Motec calculates exactly how much fuel has been burned since the engine has been started. If you have never used or tuned a motec then you may not realize this. You start the car, drive however many miles, turn the car off and divide the miles by the volume of fuel used. The resulting number is your MPG, it is a very direct calculation. Our car will get 30+mph easily on road trips, and if granny Groc drives it, it can even get 36mpg.

I dont care what you say.. not openly stating your running 100 regardless of where it came from, how much it costs, what the motive for using it was etc is pretty misleading imo.. Anything else your forgetting to tell us? Is it a built motor too? You guys are a turbo manufacture, to give results on anything without every last detail is pretty half arsed imo.

It would be intresting to see compressor maps, I gues FP have them?
As I understand RED can flow 50+ lbs if everything else is supporting that, meaning cams, exhaust etc. But for self tuner compressor map is nice aid when doing first draft of ECU SW...so if that is available, please publish it.

Lighten up, Francis.

He's only running 25psi. And he has posted about the 100-octane before, it's no secret, just an oversight. And besides, even if he had some 120-octane unobtanium gas he wouldn't make much more power than 10-15hp above anyone else running 25psi on 93. (more torque yes, more hp not so much)

Trent (IHUNTV8) is running the same or more boost on pump gas as well, though I don't know what he considers pump gas off the top of my head.

Robert isn't trying to pull a fast one, and he already gave his mod list, which said the motor and head are stock and have never been apart.

Why don't you wait to see the dyno sheet and let him post a complete mod list and dyno conditions before you accuse him of being misleading.

I don't normally do this, but here's proof of previous comments made by Robert concerning what fuel he drives DAILY. Also, note the comments at the time by those now questioning his motives and 'hiding' the fact that he uses 100 octane.

Just for the record, when you say "Pump" most everyone thinks "91" for the west coast and "93" for the rest of the country. With 100 in the tank, I would only say "pump" if I were trying to hustle someone in a street race (not that I've ever street raced like that). Technically, I get 100 at the pump too but I would say "100 Octane" rather than "pump."

Now, that's just my opinion, considering this particular industry. This, I don't think, is a reflection on FP, but there are some sketchy people in the automotive aftermarket biz trying to be slick. I just think being proactive and upfront is the best policy.

And this is coming from someone who has purchased both a WR and an EvoGreen from FP (and who will be purchasing a Red in the future too)....so hopefully these comments aren't seen as "having an axe to grind."

Ok I guess I am in the minority when I always state the octane level after a review, posting a dyno sheet, etc etc. Even if it's always crap 91.

I have a hard time believing that anyone running 100 daily is not taking advantage of it and just running their "pump" map with it. That would just be stupid.

If you think you can only make 10-15whp from moving up in octane but not touching the boost level...

a motec is just like any other control system. its going to have to tell injectors how long to open, and its going to have to tell the coils to fire. thats not going to suddenly cause your car to get >30% fuel efficiency then any other evo (and for most evos, thats a 100% improvement in fuel efficiency). you still have a stock engine and its efficiency hasn't changed that drastically.

how about when you fill up next, reset the tripometer. then when your out of gas, let us know how many miles you have gone, and how many gallons of gas you have to put back in the tank. thats going to be more accurate then integrating your pulse width over time, especially considering your injector latency is going to play an enormous effect.

No offense Robert and Grocmax but I agree with KevinD. Fill the tank up, run it empty and then fill it again and use a calulator. I don't think the EVO is capable of 36 mpg unless you are doing a short trip with a lot of downhill driving, seriously, not making a joke. We've been messing with timing/aero/AFR's on quite a few EVO's here and there is a point where running leaner won't get you more mileage and we have the timing tables tweaked to help as much as possible too. I feel if you have a really light foot 32 mpg is possible but it's even very tough to do. Just some input.

It is tough to do, and you have to set out to do it from the get go. No acceleration what so ever, people behind you flipping you off on the entrance ramps etc. It is doable, I did it, but with all that power on tap it is hard to resist burning the gas. I could never drive an entire tank thru the car like that, it would drive me nuts. Doing a hour and a half road trip in that manner is hard enough. Groc got the best mileage, with Amber coming in second place. Seems Groc has the gentlest foot.

Changing the injector timing had a large impact on fuel mileage. Meaning whether you inject on a open or closed valve etc.

9sec9 - thanks for pointing out that I have always plainly stated that I run 100UL in my car every day, no secret about it. I used to run E85 daily, but then I moved away from the gas station.

Trent's car: 440 bhp at 30 psi, 93 oct.
470 bhp at 38 psi, q16

I wonder how much more power it would have made if the boost was kept at 30 psi, using 100 oct instead of Q16!


This only to show that 100 oct @ 25 psi won't make magic compared to 93 octane at 25psi

You guys need to look up "hypermiling" and see what is actually possible.

People getting 55+ mpg out of regular civics, 128+ mpg out of Insights, etc.

Just messing around the other day on my way home from visiting family, I actually got 29 mpg (28.6) out of my Evo X over a 110 mile drive. Unfortunately, I think that might be a near-record with these things.
