Can say all the "thats typical" that you want.. I'm just a guy who wants an affordable bolt up solution that will make some more power, without building my engine, without running on VP Import all day. Stock turbos a limiting factor. I could throw down the $3500 for a real kit and make more power.. but Im one of many who are uncomfortable with that price and desire a bolton thats affordable, and provides a meaningfull gain.

Sorry, I see no meaningfull gain here, i see $1300 thats better off spent on a real kit, and an end result of still no product that suits my needs.

Negative opinions after one real world example has been posted. A test that was done in drastically different air temps, could be down on compression, could have a bent valve, or other unknown issues.

You are jumping the gun and the result is not going to help anyone.

And its only a 600 dollar upgrade for existing 9 turbo owners. For 1300 dollars, you get a whole turbo no core charge, which is a heckuva deal for Evo 8 turbo owners looking to upgrade. If that's not affordable enough for you, go with a green for a bit more. In the grand scheme of things, both are very affordable.

The white remains unproven but it'd be foolish to call it a flop after just.one.test. I don't know what's so hard to understand about such a statement.

Jeez I feel like I'm talking to honda owners again

So who exactly is this turbo aimed at? If its not going to make power for joe blow bolton.. why would mr full tilt buy it either? If im dropping the big $$ on built motor, badass hardware.. why run a $1300 sidegrade turbo?

Kinda curious where your intention is with the turbo.. either its for joe blow bolt on, who apparently finds it a downgrade, or its for mr full tilt who'd probobly run a 10 on the stock turbo anyway with the hardware youd have to have, to see an upgrade with this thing.,,,,,,,,

I don't know why everyone keeps saying this is a $600 upgrade for IX owners. I only have one car and it's the evo. So for me to remove my turbo and ship it away to be upgraded leaves me with no ride. What do people do while their car is down? Take the bus? So now I have to spend $1300 anyway and hope I can sell my stocker.

perhaps you're not sure of how core charges work...

first, you buy the complete assembly for 1300 bucks. You remove your stocker, and replace it. Then you return your stocker for the difference paid back to your CC. Its pretty standard practice throughout the automotive industry, and it's good for everyone

Perhaps you're not aware that FP isnt doing core charges.

Right now, your only options are

1) send in your stock IX turbo, wait however long it takes, while your car is down, get it back and bolt it up for $600

2) pay $1300, bolt it up, attempt to sell your stocker for whatever, most likely 350-450 according to ebay.

FP is not doing a core swap, just incase you werent aware.

The following is from when I emailed FP expressing interest when it was possibly a good upgrade at $600 for 10-15hp.

We could do that if we had used EVO9 turbos to build these from, but we only have NEW on hand. We cant use the NEW ones as exchange ones that result in reman ones on the shelf later.

Maybe will will get some used EVO9 turbo cores around to use to do what you propose?

THanks
Robert

why do people keep saying the white is a great upgrade for a 8 owner when its clear that the IX turbo is better and cheaper? Lets just say that this car had a problem and the white would make a little more power still in the end 450 used IX turbo> 1300 white turbo.

I think the data is encouraging for one and I look forward to more test results before I spend my hard earned bucks.
It is so typical of EvoM posters to think a new turbo has been brought down from the heavens after the vendor produces data from a racecar. One thread starts the hype, another one brings it back to reality. Isn't it great?

Theres NO chance the car is down on compression? or has different less knock resistant gas in it? The o2 sensors are in JUST the same condition? and so are the spark plugs?
Or are we speculating?

Again, I like and appreciate what you do, but I don't beleive that this turbo will always perform the same as an IX turbo on a bolt on car

Edit again: PLEASE do not take this wrong. I am just throwing out there things people need to realize before "throwing in the towel" on this turbo

As the owner of this car, I can tell you that nothing was changed but the turbo. The O2 sensors were never removed, there are no compression issues, car was boost leak tested to 25 psi w/ no leaks. 91 octane was from the same gas station as previous (at the Air Force Base where I'm stationed because it's so much cheaper) and the 100 octane was from the same 76 pump gas station. The turbo is the only variable.

If you look at what FP specifically said (which I posted earlier in this thread), they repeated over and over the specific performance niche that this turbo would fill. All you have to do is read, and then decide if your needs fit that set of performance characteristics.

Any "hype" that was posted was authored by individuals, not by the vendor.

BgevoIX - Thank you for allowing to post your results up here. Could you give any impressions on how it feels on the street compared to the stocker? Like throttle response, lag between shifts etc?

Thanks man
