DIY Transmission Re-Build Tips
I'd look at the clutch first, it's easy to take off since the trans is off. A rattling noise could be the springs in the clutch disc wearing down and coming loose. You can also easily check the trans input shaft for excess freeplay- try to move the shaft side to side and feel for any looseness. It should be tight but still spin freely when in neutral. You can also shift into all gears and spin the input shaft by hand while feeling for any roughness, clunking, or any unusual resistance. Check the TOB while you're in there.
Dave so I inspected the input shaft and there is no play whatso ever, it spins freely little bit of noise but is dry, gears pop good and smooth. I didn't check the tob and I'm not too worried about because I bought a hob with a quatermaster clutch I know is noisy I've driven my buddy's Evo which was he's clutch btw and I love it don't mimd the chatter neither the dog barking sound every time you take off lol
This is a great thread, i just dropped off my 6-spd to a local shop, i highly doubt he will check any clearances

I guess i'll have to gear up for the next rebuild :/... is there a thread like this one but that solely concentrates on the 6-spd transmission for any tips and tricks? I searched but i did not find anything, it seems like everyone switches over to 5-spd. I would love to keep my 6-spd but make it better

elhalisf - can you start a thread regarding a 6-spd? hehe, seems like you have a sense of what you are talking about

Shep is doing them again. also, a few of us are building trans coolers. i think that's going to be the most help.
+1 on sending it out. If you try to DIY a 6 speed rebuild you're just asking for trouble. They're more difficult than the 5 speed and the spacer tolerances are different than the 5 speed.
Awesome, great to hear that! Do you have any pictures with any tips and suggestions? Does anyone have the manual for the 6-spd?
I build engines as a hobby, i doubt i can't tackle 6-spd evo tranny when i had done the getrag 6 spd tranny out of a 3000gt vr4 before. Just need the right info and the manual
