Oh man! Hah, that plug is thoroughly fubar'd. Any chance you are able to rebuild the turbo?

It's spinning now , but not sure why it wasn't spinning before. Still going to send it out to CRBD for an inspection/rebuild.

Finally got to pull the motor...This weekend I'll strip the motor down and I'm hoping the head is still good

Cracked block, looks to be align with cylinder 1

Not sure if a rod did this?? This is the oil pan.

Finally got around to tearing the motor apart. Looks like Cylinder one completely shattered and is in the oil pan. Cylinder 2 looks to be melted/shattered. Head is completely destroyed

Dang! Looks like the piston ring was the only thing left holding that piston together. What the heck! There are so many sinister and creative ways that these engines fail.

Approximate Date: December 2015

Year: 2006

Mileage: 100,000

Modifications: Stock Block, Full bolt ons (stock turbo), Dual map tune E85/91

Power: ~400WHP/411WTQ

What Happened?: Piston #4 melted driving on track at Laguna Seca

Solution: Complete rebuild with brand new block, forged internals, etc.

Why?: Not 100% sure, but the consensus is running lean just on that cylinder (despite running E85). Possible injector malfunction.

Has to be a rod that caused the hole in the pan and the block to crack. Keep us updated.

That looks like an extreme example of broken ringlands.
Surely a catch can would fix it?
Plus making the vents all bigger..........it always works.

It even stops the dipstick from blowing out.

Check the sparkplugs.........there's oil on the threads.

Tells you you've broken the ringlands.

Looks like 3 different failure modes all in one engine lol.

I don't think so as the belt was in good shape when we pulled the head off. Maybe jumped timing??

Piston and rod for cylinder 1 are in the oil pan, I'll get around to remove the oil pan this weekend.

Just ongoing and excessive detonation.

Once they get a bit of blowby, the oil reduces the octane rating and it detonates more and more and more.
If you've got an aftermarket ECU, the knock detection won't work.
