Like I said earlier, this guy destroys evos. He breaks everything from turbos to rear ends. Even his roller bearings in his tranny quits. LOL!

And I don't know the shop so I left name out.

Yea it sounds more like he needs a driver mod. It'd be different if he was setting records regularly or something but blowing through that many different parts points to one common denominator.

This crack looks like a bad design to me. Look at the crack angle. It's along the thinnest part of oil port. Again, this is my opinion.

Lots of cranks are cross drilled, if you buy a Callies or a Wineberg they are drilled the same way. It’s the razor sharp edge the that the crack emanates from that’s the issue. Any highly stressed part made from tool steel can have a crack begin from stress riser. The key is eliminating the stress riser, that’s why windberg and other high priced cranks come totally polished and debured. The Manley piece will hold up no problem, but needs final prep before installation. Professional engine builders know this and will even debur casting flash from blocks, heads, rods, ect.
My opinion is if that crank would have had a little attention before installation it would not have cracked.

I think that's a DSM crank. I was looking at Callies earlier today and the part number for their billet 94mm they list for the evo is $1300 on summit.

I was looking at their compstar cranks. The one you posted is their sport series it seems. I have no idea what the difference is driving that cost.

Edit: maybe not, I have no idea why there's two part numbers.

So as a brief tech point, we have broken every crank made in every stroke at some point. Power or oil starvation, rpm/vibration, you can pick the poison. The Manley cranks break the most and it doesnt matter what material it is we have had six 100mm cranks, 2 88mm cranks, and 2 of them were the Billet. We were told "Never seen that before" when we sent a pallet of them in. We micro fractured a 94mm Winberg as a result of a 1-2-1 dogbox issue where normally a crank is the last thing that would have an issue. The only time we see issues is above 1100whp or in endurance racing. The only Eagle to ever break had a long history at 700whp on a pump meth setup, survived two mis shift events and one was violent enough to break an H beam. It took 10 years before it broke and it broke at 600whp on a big turbo on E85 and even then I feel it was driver error...again. Each manufacturer has slightly different method to their oiling, chamfer on the counterweight area and oiling holes, all things that make them unique. All of them strive to improve their product but I doubt anyone that has made power hasnt seen one break, whether they talk about it or not is an entirely different matter. I would never make judgement of quality based on X has run yyy amount and never seen a problem. Chances are they have and you just dont know about it.

Eagle doesn't make a billet Evo crank. Only forged.

Thanks Sean. If that block venting day ever occurs, been looking at the ER2.2L Street short block w/the Eagle crank (sounds like the Eagle forging has some benefits over some of these billets)

RS Motors has gone through enough Manleys to change their minds
