you dint need to cut off anything.. just tapping on it you can bend the whole end of the pickup and get the clearance you want

How far forward did you come on the sump extension?
I'm looking to do mine around 100mm (4") forward. Yours might be 150mm?

I found a way to pressure test the pan, which consisted of me cutting off the bottom part of the old oil pump and bonding it to the aluminum jig using Nissan Bond. I will probably uses some type of rubber seal or a non hardening sealant between the pan and the jig and then pressurize it to 5psi and check for leaks.

I've been delayed because my 25 gallon compressor died last week so I purchased a 60 gallon Dewalt and just go it going. I hope to pressure test the pan and get things wrapped up within the next 2 weeks.

Received the Setrab oil filter today and below are the pics, which include a comparison pic vs the WIX 7092 OEM filter. Despite Setrab telling me it was a bypass filter, it is not. The spring creates tension on the filter insert as you push into the housing and then rotate clockwise to lock in position. Once in the lock position the spring pushes the filter back level with the mounting surface. When you tighten the filter to the OEM oil filter housing it locks the filter in place so it will never move and therefore no bypass capabilities.

Not very confidence inspiring when the manufacture doesnt know their product. Are you still going to use the filter?

yes I am, but I’m going to call them tomorrow to understand why they say it is a bypass filter and will report back.

i wanted a non bypass and it allows me to easily inspect the element as well as having a 30 micron absolute rating, which should work well with my bypass filter that has a 2 micron absolute rating.

@240Z TwinTurbo
With your rubber trap doors for oil control, are you worried about losing oil pressure under deceleration because it's going to fill the front section of the sump?

I had a dream two nights ago that my car would only make oil pressure if the car was accelerating and every time I would cruise or slow down the oil pressure would drop to Zero. Thanks a lot!

Interesting that you're going with the Amsoil bypass filtration. I was considering it but after doing extensive reading on the topic it seemed rather extraneous. What's your goal with the setup?

Not sure how a bypass filter would be considered extraneous when the oil pump failure likely caused aluminum contamination within the engine.

Because contaminants will be caught by a normal oil filter? Using an Amsoil bypass filter in combination with a race filter like the Setrab will result in worse filtration than just using a normal, high quality filter. The bypass filter only does 10% of the oil volume at a time, and the race filter doesn't filter out the particles smaller than 30 micron, which are large enough to cause wear. Racing non-bypass filters have their place, which is at the racetrack, where you want some filtration without the pressure loss of a normal filter and/or the bypass being open at all times (zero filtration). The Amsoil bypass filter catches particles smaller than 5 microns, which are actually not large enough to cause wear in the engine, because the oil does a great job of keeping them suspended if the additive package is working correctly. While it's certainly not going to hurt anything to have it, it seems extraneous to me.

I would use a normal oil filter and an oil with a very powerful detergent package (like Redline) for the next few oil changes, and then I wouldn't worry about it. If you want to switch to a racing filter when you're racing, that makes sense.
