Well, this is different. I think it's a little pin from the center of the friction plates, it's not from the "tabs"/centering springs like what was posted in this thread.
I heard a rock in a tin can noise while driving, pulled over and the clutch pedal was super stiff, wouldn't budge. Tried again and it was fine. Coasted home downhill and fished this out.
I spoke to ACT today, they said the new spring tabs 9n the Floater and completely different and it was an issue with the stock the tab was cut from and the angle it was cut causing the grains to separate in the metal. Appreciated the Info and Mike was super helpful, but still super duper scared to go with it.
Looking to see if anyone has a solid 145-150mph trap speed car using this successfully?

Since switching the plates out to ceramic, I haven't had any issues with thr clutch.
Some street driving and racing and a few highway high speed pulls.
I'll be on the track in 2 weeks with drag slicks and cam share feedback after the 2 day drag event.

Since switching to the ceramic, have you put more than the 1500 miles you did on the organic discs? The guy told me they recommended organic for street use yesterday as well but I'm curious if it can hold up to the heat.

Only about 500 miles, but its been driven quite hard in that time and 2 race days and maybe about 15 launches so far.
I'm busy fitting small brakes and 15s slicks, and head out again soon.
I ended up installing the 875tq version with the Organic Discs/Solid Hub.
-Drives great, zero chatter or noise. 112 miles so far
-Going to the track tomorrow to run a 9, real report to come!
Great!! Let us know how it goes! How does the Solid hub/ Organic disc runs on street? My quartermaster runs pretty bad hehe but I get use to it. Do you know if the Act sprung street version still have issues or was this fixed? Thanks!
Yeah I agree I myself was running Schaeffers 75w140 and it was ok but I have to have the car completely warmed up to get it not to shift like ****. I since went back to 75w90 in the trans and we will see if it will help. Odd thing is the 75w140 flows just as smooth as the 90 but is just thicker. I think I will be ok now that I switched cause when it drops below like 70 degrees thing just doesn't wanna shift
Hey stupid go back to the 140 the 90 is way to light for your hp level lol.

How do you like the solid hub? I have the sprung hub and its ok. Being we use the same discs and all I am interested in hearing your thoughts with the solid.
The clutch drives AMAZING. Easy to slip, no chatter. Smooth enagagemment. Couldnt tell it was a solid hub. I got the solid hub to have less weight on the input shaft for shifting.
Their tech rep told me to go with the Organic discs, because its street driven and would see the occasional track day. I broke it in for a few hundred miles of easy, shift heavy driving along with a fresh trans. Went to the track today and this clutch 1000% cannot handle the heat from a launch.
My car makes a bit over 700whp at STM, this clutch absolutely could not handle a launch and then full pass in the mid 140's trap. It got really weird after launching, felt like an Exedy when the pressure plate warps. Got hot, stayed hot, shifted like crap and would bog from not holding the power. Got 2 passes on it and then had to adjust the clutch pedal rod all the way out and let it sit for an hour at the track just to be able to get in gear and drive home.
This is all coming from a longtime Quartermaster 8 Leg user, with tons of passes. That clutch would take anything you could throw at it, just was loud and didnt like street driving as much. I am super super disappointed in this ACT Mod Twin. Even if I went to Ceramic discs, I doubt it'll make a difference just from this experience.

Interesting, I know my clutch with 1200 plus whp did ok on the launch but did get notchy after a few passes. Once I got to my 3rd or 4th launch it was ok but my adjustment nut under the dash on the pedal came loose and kinda like you were saying had to readjust. One more thing my release point was way down low. It would disengage at like 2 inches off the floor and I think that was part of my problem. I won"t know till I get my car back from the shop. I debated on going solid hub, but the rep from act told me not to. He said that the sprung should be ok even at my hp level. I will say its the best clutch to actually drive though as you stated. I hated trying to get my triple to slip at times. Even my Exedy twin didn't drive as nice.
I'm only at 550whp but I've done a ton of launches on the twin and it stayed consistent and predictable with no overheating, however I spin the tires instead of slipping the ctluch because I'm unprepped on the street.
Also an update about those pins that came loose: ACT says it's ok to drive like this so my shop just put the clutch back in as-is. Supposedly they're for alignment and not keeping things together. Still really odd because they would have done a lot of damage if they kept bouncing around in the bellhousing.
my act twin/ceramic sprung is 2 weeks old. no chatter but engagement isn't smooth, like slip-grab-slip-grab. but its not a big deal... kinda matches my slippy-grabby rear LSD lol *sigh*. I havent launch the car in years. maybe i'll try to relearn tomorrow if I can find a good spot

The issue was with the release springs on the Floater plates, which all ACT Twins come with. Their rep said it was an issue with the metal they used being cut "with the grain" and causing them to fail. Now they're much beefier and cut properly so that issue is supposed to be remedied
