I ask because of all of these "horror" stories about voided warranties, so Im nervous about pulling the trigger on an EVO VIII. But with the gas prices in Cali, Id almost rather get the used and keep the extra $$ for gas.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for those that answered

It seems like the general consensus is that staying stock, although a dumb idea to some members on this board, is almost a sure-fire way to avoid warranty denial, unless you were just that dumb and purposely damaged the car. I have a stock IX and plan on keeping it that way since I probably won't be able to pay for repairs, much less the mods that void the warranty. Obviously the first thing to consider is the dealership; some willingly work on cars with aftermarket turbo kits and suspensions while some will deny warranty work on a completely stock car because they suspect that you race it. I suppose the best advice would be to stay as close to stock as you possibly can while figuring out which California dealerships are more accepting of working on cars that aren't stock without much fuss.

Oh, by the way, I know that the 10-year warranty on the IXs does NOT transfer to the second owner if the car is sold (but you do keep certain warranties, but for shorter periods of time); you might want to look up the fine print for used Evo VIIIs if that is what your choice ends up being.

you're lucky then. i have rust right where the spoiler sits on the trunk and they wouldn't cover it. i also have rust on the front driver side door jam and that wasn't covered. rust in the inside around my engine bay and that wasn't covered. gave me the run around the whole time and it took 3 weeks to answer any questions. went to 3 diferent deal and they all said the same thing. the more i complained the more they d*cked me around.

You need to start a Class Action... so everyone can get involved. Look for a lawyer that specialises in Class Action... what happens is that they look for ppl that been screwed like u.... you get enough of them and when Mitsu sees that... they settle out of court... give money back and will stop doing bad business.

I'm in that field and work in class actions ...but im not a lawyer

Did he specifically say he was denying coverage only based on the AMS intercooler? if that is the case i would think you would have a good shot. i think it's the magnasson something(?) act the burden of proof is on the dealer to prove that the installation of an aftermarket intercooler would cause the front diff to fail.

Lol - i went through all this with mitsu - all the way to the top - no good- i have letters, dates the whole nine!!

I used magnuss-moss, the fact that the dealer recommened & installed my clutch and the fact that there are know serivce advisorisies on my issue. Got me nowhere.

Round some people up - Mitsu owes me $1500 buckS!!

The Mitsu Store And Warrenty Rep Have Never Even Seen Car They Asked Me Over Phone What Modification Were Done I Told Them An Intercooler {ams} And New Clutch {rps} Single Plate Street Disc, I Had To Replace Clutch It Was Slipping Fair Amount,, The Mitsu Store Ok Bring It In, He The Service Rep Called Me Back And Said Forget It,, The Service Manager Said " Hey I'm On Your Side Its A Bunch Of Crap" And That His Hands Were Tied The Rep Told Him Not To Even Touch It.... And So I Called Mitsu, The Told Me I Could Take It In But I Would Have To Pay For The Labor If They Determine The Clutch Had Anything To Do With It/ Intercooler Also... C'mon I Told Mistu The Clutch Was Only In Car For 50miles... It Only Has Been And I Changed Clutch Because I Thought Maybe It " The Factory Clutch" Was Causin It To Vibrate.... This Is Crap....all Of It

so they didnt tell you your warrenty was void, they told you that you would be responsible if the clutch caused the problem. im sorry to say, thats not crap, thats how warrenties work man. you could still take it in, and tell them not to fix it if your going to have to pay for the entire job, if they determine your parts caused it. you could also try another dealership, some are more mod friendly than others.
