I guess I can remove the black tape off my dashboard VIN# now since my warranty is done! (...but not without getting a new tranny under warranty.)

I really feel bad for all you guys that got the stiff arm from Mitsubishi. Because of that, I will likely never buy another Mitusbishi.

Motor spun a bearing under normal highway driving @ 15,300 miles. Took the car to a dealer with the TBE on, and when I came back 2 days later the district rep had sent a whole stack of EvoM threads to the Service Manager with my posts from earlier in the year about a flash, boost controller and intake. Warranty work on the motor/transmission/x-fer case (all drivetrain) was voided "due to modifications", even though it was obviously a factory defect. They made NO effort to find the cause of the problem, just used their "mods" reasoning as a scapegoat.

Well you need to remember that the dealer must prove that your modifications caused the problem. And how does he know what your screen name is? Did he search you ip address or what?

^ I hope they do read this thread, and realize how much business they are losing by chosing to be a**holes.

They saved $9,000 covering my car under warranty, but they are losing $35,000+ when I look elsewhere for my next vehicle.

ALOT of people are doing the same thing, ONLY because Mitsubishi has no idea how to run a quality business.

I didn't get into logistics, but I think there was a pic I posted of my Evo with the plate showing so that may have done it. And technically (I went through it with the DMV & their lawyers) they don't have to *prove* the modifications caused the problem IF it is stated in the warranty manual that aftermarket modifications void your warranty. Mitsubishi has that printed on page 6 (or 7, I forget). Otherwise, they WOULD have to prove that is the case. So basically they used a techicality to save themself a few grand while screwing over the customer, and they were GLAD to do so.

If they had a TBE on the issue in the first place that may mitigate the mod issue... I'm no lawyer so just consider it me throwing an idea out there... I may want to put on my flame suit though.

I didn't buy the car with the TBE on, I bought the Evo new and installed a TBE and left it on when I brought her in for warranty work.

I don't feel your pain. YOU knew modifiying your car was going to likely void your warranty and you did it anyway, then the engine blew and you're whining? Prove that the mods you had on the car didn't cause the failure!

Get your facts straight, I'm not "whining". Read my threads on the matter if you want my attitude on the entire situation. The only emotion you'll be seeing from me is a little disapointment at how fragile a $32,000 car is. I guess I should have assumed that with some light modding the engine will explode in 2 million pieces taking out the transfer case, transmission and turbo with it since it is tuned to the absolute edge from the factory. I should have known better. One day I dream to own a car where the company gives 2 sh*ts about their customers.

The car is in my garage where I am happily upgrading the fragile 4G63 with a better motor.

Ha ha, fragile. Yeah right. What are you putting in instead?

Everybody wants a racecar fully sponsored by the manufacturer.

It was sarcasm! Buschur 2.3 is going in.

I have no problem admitting fault if that was infact the case, but fault was not determined. All I was hoping for was an actual assessment of the cause of the problem but Mitsu did not want to give that. If 5000 of the same vehicle are running the exact same mods and 1 breaks, one would think something was different about that vehicle.

..and if anyone can tell me how an intake/TBE/flash/MBC @ stock boost would cause a connecting rod nut to back off without being stripped in the process, by all means be my guest.

Anyway, be it my fault or Mitsu's fault, I've moved on. Lesson learned. Don't post mods on EvoM

That is the whole point that very few people seem to understand. People expect the whole world to come to a grinding halt when something goes wrong. They want the blame placed elsewhere automatically when it was in fact them, who made the first wrong by modding the car. You are already at fault, so the burden of proof is on you. Not Mitsubishi. They are not going to box your car up, send it back to Japan, have Dr. EVO and his team of engineers drop what they are doing to disassemble your car to determine what went wrong. When the answer is already determined from their perspective: The powertrain warranty does not cover modded vehicles.

People who have stock cars get the benefit of the doubt - their cars don't get overly scrutinized either - they just get fixed. That is what limited warranties are all about.

The End.
