It's pretty easy. Mod your car and when it's time to go back to the dealership return the car to stock. it's a pain in the ***, but well worth it. Dishonest? whatever. Just don't get caught at the track

my view on warranty work is if i modify my car, i don't have anyone to cry to if something breaks if it is related. if it is not related and something breaks, i would like it to be covered, but i'm not counting on my warranty. i will try to have it covered if it is unrelated, but i don't expect it to be covered. if it is covered, great. if it's not, then i'll replace it with something better aftermarket and my savings account will suffer. it is very easy for a dealership to say something you did caused another part to fail and i expect them to try it. for example, my boost gauge gets its reading from the line going to the FPR. they can say the FPR was getting a bad reading, caused the car to run lean and the engine blew up. engine warranty voided from a boost gauge. if you plan to modify or do your own maintenance, have some money set aside just in case

Even if your car isn't modded, some dealership might pull the owner abuse card, and say it's not covered. YMMV

You guys can get pissed and call him names all you want, but he is right. I don't think an aftermarket filter and catback should void a warranty either, but if their point is to increase power, then how can you say they didn't cause a tranny to go out if it were to happen? I realize they don't add much, but the warranty precisely says it covers the stock car and that's it. Some dealers may not flinch or bat an eyelash at those types of basic mods, but that is their discretion, if they blow the whistle on you, you won't have any leg to stand on - so you take that chance. We can list mods all day long of what we think should be tolerated, but itsn't going to help any one of us if the mitsu rep denies a claim on any one of our cars. That's the bottom line, mod at your own risk - having a good relationship with a serivce manager is nice, but if it ain't in writing, its worthless. And I doubt very seriosuly any Mitsu dealer is going to put anything like that for you on paper.

So you guys believe that putting gf210s lowering springs on the car should void you tranny and engine warranty also?

Try to use some common sense. I am trying to be civil in this discussion. I distinctly used an example of power modifications being used against someone with a powertrain problem. If you go in complaining about handling and you have aftermarket springs, then I think you could be in for some resistance.

Dude, I think you took what I wrote in a wrong way, relax. It was not aimed at you. I was just saying what my dealer told me, when I asked him about lowering springs. He said he will void my entire warranty.
I understand that after market springs should void any suspension warranty, but why should it void my trany and engine warranty

I would say to void your warranty would be something like; buying an MBC and turning the boost up to 35 psi and blowing yourself away. Obviously that's your fault.

But lets say you install a TBE and your transmission goes boom. I wouldn't think that your TBE would have caused that. Maybe im wrong but I believe if something causes something else to burn/fry/blow up then it voids the warranty.

Your warranty is with Mitsubishi, not any dealer - so only a Mitsubishi service representative can void a car's warranty. A dealer can refuse to work on your car, or give you a hard time about something, but they will call in a rep to make the decision wether the damage is warrantied or not. But then there are other dealers. If you are looking for quick in and out service with no hassles, stick with a stock car. If you are confident aftermarket springs (or any other mod) can never be connected to any specific damage to another system, then mod away - just don't expect things to happen lickety split on your timeframe if/when something does go wrong.

LOL ... yep, that is the first post in this thread. It was not a track event; it was an SCCA auto-x in a local parking lot.

So how does everyone feel about removing basic mods like exhaust when taking the car into the dealership. Can they actually tell that you had an aftermarket exhaust on???

Also, what's the verdict on gauges. Anyone experienced issues with gauges and warranty problems? If so, which gauges?
