Recaro Warranty?

I have read the threads about Recaro seats breaking and yes, you guessed it, my driver's seat broke. I took it in and they charged me $45 plus tax to tell me that the seat bracket is broken and they WILL NOT cover the seat back replacement ($1700) under warranty because it is considered a wear and tear item. I asked for them to explain to me in writing why they considered it a wear and tear item, which they in fact could not do. The service manager commented all warranty information is in the manual as an easy way out. I do not have direct access to my manual at this time. Is it in fact in the manual? Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Call corporate in Cypress and get customer service on the line. They may be able to help you unless you installed an axel back muffler .

Also, you might want to try another, more friendlier dealer, and while you're at it cancel that $45 check.

There are a couple of mailorder dealers who give up to 30% discounts to club members so if you do have to pay for the seat you may get it for a lot less thant $1700. Do a search. there are 2 or three under something like mitsupartsdirect.com or mitsubishiparts.com.

wear and tear item my ***.
only wear and tear items on our car are the brakes, clutch, wipers and tires.

if thats the case, then anything in the car that is ever used is a wear and tear item

That is B.S. By that logic, everything on the car could be considered a wear item.

If the chair has obvious abuse they can deny the claim, otherwise they have to honor it. take it to another dealer.

I wonder what would have happened if you refused to pay that $45. Man, dealers will tell people anything. I wish some TV show would go undercover and catch these guys in their own lies on camera. These fockers deserve it.

Aren't the brembo's wear and tear? People get those replaced under warranty for paint fade. That is such bull. Tell that dealer to go screw himself and take your $45 back.

Similar thing happend to my Recaro, and the dealer claimed that it was abuse. They claim from the way it broke that something from the outside penetrated the plastic back portion of the seat. this is total BS. That would be like saying I took a hammer to the recaro and punched a hole in it. I may do something because i have heard about many more seats than mine breaking.

This is BS and they know it. Please tell us the name of the dealership and if they have a website. What's the name of the GM and the person who denied coverage and what are their emails. We all need to take a stand and email these thieves and tell them what we think, in a respectfull manner, off course. And then let Mitsubishi know what's goimg on with these seats and what these scammers are doing. Maybe the seats weren't designed for larger men.

Thanks all

There is no visual wear on the seat. I guess they assume somone took a sledge hammer to my right bolster and broke it, but were kind enough to rewrap the seat or shampoo away any debris.

When you guys see me on 60 mins standing next to a new STi *joke* with a smile on my face, you will say, "Hey I know Dan, he...".

I will be sure to post when this IS resolved in my favor.

*EDIT* Sorry, I just saw the dealer location request.
