Warranty

Good point on the key and potential for stealing the car. The Evo is parked in my garage every night, but maybe I should just let sit on weekends at the dearship so that they will steal it! I need an excuse for another car anyway BTw, if anyone from Obrien Mitsu is a forum member the car is sitting at the airport all this week

To everyone's comment that it was my fault for trying to replace the boot and that the dealer had every right to not honor the claim. I hope you change your own oil and filter and then one day find a blown engine and have to tell the Mitsu dealer that you do your own maintenance work As for the springs being a potential cause of the torn boot is like saying aftermarket wheels and tires can cause a blown clutch, yea right.

One thing I have always wondered is do you think the Mitsu dealer logs a file saying I have had certain mods and that any future warranty claim will be denied. This would kind of indicate that taking off mods for warranty work would be, well............., unwarranted.

Anyway, the best lesson I learned is what needs to come off to change a CV boot!

Thanks guy's this was a fun post. Appreciate all your comments.

When the car is lowered, like yours was, it changes the angle that the CV joint operates at. As a result, both the CV joint and the boot can experience unusual wear.

Mitusbishi warranty? It is not included on the EVO's. It's not even a option.

I would DEMAND that the car be RE-Keyed. Period.

mits warranty

well i went to the dealership to get something replaced under warranty. i had to get a new aluminum shift knob that comes stock on the RS, what happened was the little clear plastic that covers the numbers for the gears poped off. well my fiance was telling me that i was being way too petty about a shift knob. she told me to use super glue to fix it. i was telling her that after spending money on the car i shouldnt have to fix it myself. dealership gave me no problems what so ever and i was very pleased with the service. just thought i would share this with you guys to see if the samething happened to your shift knob. i really not a big fan of the ball type shift knob i just figured i would get it replaced so when i decided to order a tomei one i could sell the stock aluminum one.

Most who flash ecus do tune with a decent factor of safety, but its easy to comprehend how an Ecu that is retuned is more of a risk than one that was calibrated by Mitsu itself.
no i was not asking if a flash would complicate my coverage, i was asking if something happened to the car if they would check the ecu.

I'd say there is a 50/50 chance. It depends on the type of failure. If you have no mods and there is a whole in your block, they will be suspicious and may check the ECU for modification.

I was just at the cherry hill mitsu for my 30k free maintenance service (i have free 45k maintenance and take full advantage of it). In addition to doing the engine oil change and inspecting stuff, they replaced transmission oil and did a coolant flush (the latter 2 things aren't really listed under the free 30k service, but i'm not complaining, it was free!).
Also, the heat shield somewhere in the front of the exhaust has been rattling for the past 2 months and i forgot to tell them, but they saw it and ordered the part to replace that section of the exhaust, under warranty.
In addition to that, a small area on the edge of the hood on the windshield side has blistering paint. The dealership submitted a claim to mitsu and that area will be repainted for me, under warranty.
This same dealership replaced a caliper for me before, when the clearcoat was blistering on it (1yr ago), however, another caliper started doing the same thing and they said mitsu no longer does free replacements for that...oh well.
About 1.5 yrs ago when i was in for a free maintenance, they also found that i had a leaking transfer case seal and replaced the seals in the TC under warranty (the TC itself was fine).
My car is bone stock.
The ironic thing is that when i ask for quotes on various work that i will have to eventually do, like timing belt change, they have some ludacris $$$ quotes....go figure.

wtf are you talking about dude? what bit your ****? i didn't say i'm gonna change it myself, although i did it on my teg along with water pump and valve lash. mitsu quoted some $1000...atlantic motorsports does it for $400 less and they're like 2hrs from me. so i was just saying that it's too expensive.
some people need to stop making assumptions about intentions and/or mechanical skills of others...unbelievable!

Submitted a claim for my stock Enkei's bubbling on the inside by the center caps(corrosion).

They gave me a hard time and blamed me but before I could argue it they did end up giving them to me. They called it "environmental" and told I couldn't have it done again.

No problem because they're doing it anyways, but that bothers me because they could say the same thing if the stock wing ever starts to peel/lose clearcoat.

Oh Yes! My PT warrenty was voided!

Fellow Evo drivers beware.... So I take my evo to Norco mitsubishi to have my brake calipers replaced because the clear coat on the Brembos had peeled off leaving my once shiny brake calipers looking rather crappy. No probelm I take it in for warrently to cover it. So, the DSM (District Sales Manger) Geoff approves the caliper replacement because the clear coat peeling is apparently a defect on the 2005's. Unfortunaly he also concludes that my PT warrently on the vehicle will not be honored in the future because of the mass amount of horse power being produced from my K&N intake ! OMG a greddy type s BOV and an intake and lose my warrenty. What a load of crap! Nothing is even broken on my car and they void the warrently with nothing to quantify their stipulation. And to top it off someone that worked there jacked my I-pod i left in my glove compartment. Boo for Norco Mitsubishi and Double BOO for Geoff the DSM
