Warranty Issues <Mega Merge>
Well I can see where mitsu is coming from. Since you had attempted to fix the issue on your own, but for saying that springs caused it to break ia just ridiculous. My service rep actually allowed me a full TBE, intake, and a boost controller lol. He had an Evo himself so he was pretty cool with me.
I don't mean to add a bit of worry to this topic, but they "lost" your key......I have had my house broken into and robbed twice.....and I smell a shady mechanic/employee that may pay you a visit in the near future. They have your address on file, and your key...Keep close eyes on your ride. It seems tooooo shady to me. anyone else see this????
Regarding your warranty claim, I would be willing to bet that if you hadn't tried to fix it it probably wouldn't have been an issue. I mean how do they know you did accidentally stab it with a screwdriver when you were installing something.

I don't know if you had saw my post a couple days ago, about my entire clutch assemb. going out and to ****, but the repair was $2,200 total. My car was purchase 1/30/07 Only a week old. It had 1k mi on it, obviously the demo car, and was COMPLETELY stock, and the dealership TRIED to tell me they wouldn't cover it under warranty. Well eventually, they called in and their head service depart. TOLD them it is covered and *tears* I can pick it up tomorrow. But yea, they tried to tell me i was street racing and what not, so I could only imagine what you went through with after market parts. Sucks bro
Combine that with the fact that the car was lowered on aftermarket springs, and you should have no expectation that that repair should be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
The lost key part would really concern me though. That's ridiculous that the dealer could not even keep track of the car keys you left with them. I'd keep a close eye on you car over the next few weeks. The paranoid in me thinks the missing keys could be foreshadowing an inside-job car theft...

what else is new... i will hopefully never have to bring my car back to the dealership because i kno that they will never cover anything... but i agree that you shouldnt have given them the business out of spite..
Werd. Not a dealer in the world that would cover a repair on your word - well unless you know the guy. Word to the wise - let them do it if it's warrantee-able.
I personally don't blame the dealership for denying the warranty. IfI was the service manager I would eny your warranty too. If you can't be smart enough to ask the dealership what they will allow then yu just have to suck up the loss. Anybody could tell you that springs are a huge no, no. They also void most of the drivetrain warranty. People are just not smart enough to realize that.
This is a word to the wise.
My 05' GSR recently had a split and leaking CV boot which I took into the dealer that I bought the car from. The car has aftermarket springs and rear sway bar and a turbo back exhaust system. I attempted to remove the CV boot myself and install an OEM boot but I was unaware that a C-Clip held the CV joint in place and had to be removed to replace the boot. I decided not to go any further and just put everything back in place except the outside metal bands that held the outside boot (the one that was split).
The service manager called and said they would not cover the boot replacement under warranty because I had attempted a repair. I contended that it should not matter because it was split when I attempted a repair. He agreed and said he would take it up with the manager. He then called me about an hour later and said they would not cover the repair because I had after market springs on the car!
The end of the story is that I was charged $245 for the parts and labor. Even funnier is that when I went to pick up the car they lost my key and had to remake one and that took an extra 45 minutes waiting. I now have to take my spare key back in so that they can reprogram the chip in this key so that I have a spare key.
I think the moral of the story is that Mitsubishi is in such poor financial shape and that they have a hard on for all of us who mod our cars that they will look for (and most likely find) any reason to not cover warranty items.
It will be interesting to see what happens if I have other warranty work.
Good luck brothers if you ever need warranty service with a modded car.

I've seen it mentioned time and time again on the forum, that taking your aftermarket parts off before visiting a dealer for warrenty work is the best way to go. What's retarded is that they are blaming everything and anything for their lack of craftsmanship in some of their parts.
Worse than that, is there are a few of us who bought our cars used and don't have access to the OE parts that we may need to put on if we want warranty work. (if the extended warrenty was purchased)

the dealer was right in not giving you warranty. aftermarket springs and trying to fix it yourself. what do you expect?
