the thing you have to remember is mitsu is here to make money like any other business, the way they see it (and this is just imo) that when you start to mod with the car your lowering the life expectancy (sp?) they build them to last/endure up to a certain extent and when you change that variable.... well they feel they shouldnt have to foot the bill for your abuse or pushing it beyond their "paramaters"

take cell phones for example.... did you know theres this tiny pin hole sized litmus type paper in it that if you drop it in water it turns blue? they do this cause so many people would drop their phone in the water or get it wet then wanted a new phone for free trying to say it was the mfgrs fault....

doesnt make much business sense does it to give away or warranty a product when it wasnt the companys fault right?

all products have a limit and when you push it you shorten the life of it simple as that, if mitsu pushed the evo to the ragged edge of reliabilty youd have a 5k/5 month warranty.... caPISH?

imo if you decide to mod your car heavily expect to break parts but dont expect mitsubishi to foot the bill cause you ran lean and put a hole in the block....

on the other hand raise hell if you installed a cat back and down the road your seat needs fixing and they deny you.... now thats bs.

the evo is a pricey finely tuned machine, i wont do any extreame mods until after the warranty is done, unless of course if your wealthy or hardcore enough to just suck up the bill yourself....

enough of my ramblingm.... hope i made sense

There is a shop i know but at the same time i don't want to be spending money on installing things that aren't hard at all u know. I have a few Evo owner friends down here in S Fl part of TEMEVO, i know they would help me out but at time i don't want to overdue it lol. The minute i buy a place w a garage i will def be installing things myself in the comfort of my house. If i get it wrong, then try again till it's right

i took my evo in all stock after I bought it used to have everything checked.. they found a little wear on my driveshaft and replaced under warranty.. I have since then installed a mbc running stock boost of 19psi to redline. I have a small ticking noise either in my injector area or spark plug area cant really tell.. im going to take it in and have them check it out but i might take off my mbc otherwise im sure they would void my warranty even though I haven't pushed it over the stock limits. Also upon deaccleration there is a strange noise so I have to have that checked too.. im sure they will try to void any warranty for a mbc just out of skeptical reasons. so back to full stock i go..

Rear Wing

I'm about to have the rear wing on my car replaced due to what appears to be water damage. The wing isn't physically damaged but somehow it would appear that water is seeping into the carbon fiber. It took a little while, no so much to convince them as there seems to have been a few complaints but the time it took to get it. As a matter of fact they are replacing it with a Evo 9 wing instead just because it's taking so long.

The right side insidedoor handles were popping off in my evo, so i brought it in for warranty work. They fixed it without asking and questions, but when i got the car back i noticed that they turned my boost controller ALL the way up and disconnected my oil catch can, blaming it on me saying that I must have done that before bringing it in.

My car is 100% stock except for a K&N drop in air filter. I've made two warranty claims since I bought the car new 8 months ago. Both claims concerned the brakes (warped rotors). Everything was covered without a problem. As tempting as it is to modify my car (and I swore I'd never even think about it), I just can't take the plunge. This forum is littered with posts like "Just installed my _____. Now there's a clunking noise coming from under the hood." OR "I keep losing power at 5K RPM ever since I swapped out my ____ for an aftermarket ___". Modding, by all appearances, is a risky venture. I like my 10 year/100,000 mile warranty more than I'd like another 50 WHP. But that's just me.

They covered your synchros with the mods though right? I think that is pretty good.

Thanks for the comments and votes guys. This is starting to turn out the way I expected it to.

i've got a drop-in HKS filter and HKS cat-back. this is all my dealer allows and keep warranty, and i'm cool with it. he also said i can put a IX metal BOV on since it is a factory part and keep the warranty.

I've got some mods, but I'm hoping they will look beyond that since I've just developed a 5th gear grind. I have stock clutch on 48,000miles.
They replaced my wing at 42,000 even though they didn't have too. The only thing I have been denied is the calipers at the same mileage, and that was because I was out of the 36k bumper to bumper.

thats aewsom a woman that likes to get her hands dirty is a great thing especialy when shes putting parts on her evo. I only know one other woman like that so you could see why you could be an import enthuisists dream girl. Its always good to have friends that work on cars to. I can't wait to realy start modding my VIII. Friday I just put in the kandn drop in that my buddy gave me only used for 200 miles before he got his intake. Freebies are always nice to. Having a garage is always a good thing to.

Awesome experience on warranty work

I own a Rally Red 03 and on my wing it has one spot on it that is slightly discolored from the rest, the spot is maybe the size of a quarter. Im on leave from work and was pretty bored so I decided to go to dealer and see what they would say to me. I really didnt think anything was going to happen with it but I decided what the hell.

I walk in there expecting they are gonna say oh thats to small we wont cover it (keep in mind the car is a 03, im not sure what the paint and body warranty is). They walk out look at it and instantly he goes in and orders a new wing. After all the negative threads I saw on here about people being denied I figured the same would happen to me.

He was saying there is a major backorder on the older wings because they are all carbon fiber, said it would be a few months till the old ones would be available. He said he is going to order me a EVO 9 wing, so thats fine with me as long as I dont have that spot anymore. I could care less if its all carbon fiber or not, lol.

I think he said there was a new TSB for the wing that was just released. I think it was for all of the older EVOs with paint problems on the wing. I will get details on this when I go in to get my spoiler put on. They said it will be there on Thursday and then it has to go out for paint. As soon as I get more info on the TSB I will post up so everyone can get a new spoiler.

*EDIT* The dealer is ORR Mitsubishi located in Shreveport, Louisiana. Also for what its worth other local EVO owners have had issues and they never got denied any work. One guy had 2 t-cases replaced in a matter of 6 months. The other fried his stock clutch and the dealer told him they would replace it with a better one at no charge if he brought it to them.

Glad to hear a good story involving a dealership. It seems as though most have nothing but negative things to say concerning dealers. Congrats on the new wing
