Warranty Issues <Mega Merge>
yea. it depends on the dealership. try finding out which dealership is mod friendly in your area from other people. When I had a busted 5th gear synchro, I had an aftermarket clutch in at the time. One dealership said they wouldn't fix my synchro under warranty and another dealership actually did fix it under warranty. So its basically a toss-up

Dude , do like i did and just call around to the local (and some not local ) dealers and talk to the Service Manager. The one over here in Sierra Vista was hella cool and was all about helping me out with warranty work (stipulation , as long as i didn't mod my car with anything that upped the boost) on a modded car... S**T they even offered to install some of the aftermarket parts if needed any "assistance". So its more or less of a hit or miss kinda thing. Why do you guys need your synchros changed anyway ?? You grinding on the way to fifth gear ?
warranty question
Hi guys
I got my 03 evo about couple months ago and as today my gear is start to grinding (especially from 2 to 3). So today i went to the mitsubishi to ask couple question.
I asked if they could possibly check my tranny The guy told me that I have to service the car first (changing the transfer case oil, differential, and transmission fluid) I told him that I don't need the service I want to know if my car is normal. The GUY REPLY THAT " Who's going to pay for the check up?" I was like The car still have warranty why won't you check it up for me?
He was like "the warranty works only if the car have problem" I told him that is why I want to check my car because it has a problem. HE SAID THAT HE CAN'T HELP ME WITHOUT DOING THE SERVICE FIRST.
I read that there are many problem with grinding from 2 to 3, is this normal?
Anyone can give me advice how the warranty work?
Is it true that he have to perform the services first?
help me out guys I'm a newbie here.
Thanks

on the 03s, the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th gear synchros are notorious for going bad, that might be the problem, is on my car. problem is (in my case) mitsu takes the car in... tears down the transmission.... orders the parts they need from japan, and leave the tranny apart til the parts get there for installation.... so you can be out a car for.... a month.... but i'd tell him to go ahead and service it then, and if he doesn't find a problem, thanks for the free service. HA if only it were that simple.... what is it about mitsu dealers
If I had just bought a used evo, changing those fluids would be the one of the first things I would do. There are threads here telling you how to DIY. Otherwise pay them the ~200 bucks to get it done. You could negotiate with them that if that does not fix it,you will pay for the fluids and they pay for the labor (or they pay for all of it if you can work it).
buddy...the 30k mile service(changing of all fluids, diff, tcase, oil everything) is more around 500-900$ range it just depends on what the dealership wants to charge you.

Try pressing the clutch all the way in before you shift. Try shifting slowly and smoothly between 2-3. If it still grinds then your synchro is probably going bad. Changing the tranny fluid might help with the issue but once the grinding starts that usually means your 2-3 gear synchro is shot. You could try putting Pennzoil synchromesh in the tranny (not rear diff and TC) to help with smoother shifting as it helps synchros work faster. In the TC only use Mitsu Diaqueen gear oil!
