exactly, it IS NOT your responsibility as an owner to know that your POS car is burning oil at 2x,000 miles. If you have your oil changed regularly(tough to prove if you did it yourself), they are fighting a losing battle.

Not trying to be a ***** but in the first paragraph you said that you change the oil after every event, but then at the end of your post you say that you have "One track event and about 500-600 miles +mountains after the change". Did you check the oil after the track event? Has it used any oil during lapping?

You seem to be an honest guy about how the car is used and if you are reasonable I think (hope) that the dealer will take care of you. If they will not warranty it I would definitely not have them do any work on it.

I check my oil once a week. I am pretty obsessive when it comes to my car though.

Thanks for all the support guys, this is a pretty strange issue, and I'll be sure to update everyone on the situation. I loved the suggestion about topping off the oil before claiming warranty, damn, I wish I'd done that . Normally I do change the oil that reguarly, but I was severely injured playing football shortly after my last event, and couldn't work on cars for some time. Even without that change I was thinking that it should still be good to go.

During track days, the car didn't really burn any oil to my knowledge. I do a lot of oil changes on different cars, so I have a large pan that it all goes into. I didn't closely monitor the oil as it was coming out every time, but I think I would have probably noticed that much oil missing. The thing that keeps sticking in my mind is how I could have possibly driven for two hours in the mountains with just a quart and a half. Seems to me like something got screwed up mid way through the drive and I started torching the oil rapidly. Oh well...

Damn, I feel ya on that one.

Also, to answer another question, Mitsubishi says that they didn't detect any leaks upon a visual inspection. I didn't bother to jack up the car and take a look since it was 3am. I just took it to first thing the next morning. Also, let my case story be a lesson to everyone: If you have a warranty issue, CHECK IT OUT YOURSELF FIRST! Don't make the same mistakes I did.

We had a guy, here that had no mods only a bov, guessing he got a bad motor from mitsu. He got the same thing you did, ( rod knock ) ,, He went as far as court with mitsu, with me writing letters in his defense. Mitsu claimed that with his bov , it injested water and went into the motor causing rod knock. And they won in court due to the fact that he modified his car therefore voiding his warranty. Total BS ...

Another guy a few weeks back,,, got his oil changed by his house in maryland drove 3 hrs to our shop for a tune, The jiffy lube place never tightened his drain plug. It actually fell off about 5 miles from him reaching us with his oil light coming on. I would of bet everything i own that his motor would of been damaged... But by some freak of nature it was fine.. So thats 5miles with no oil whatsoever .... Good luck with your fight.. but 1.5 quarts of oil loss is nothing. You can be as much as 3 down ..and you prob wouldnt see the light yet ..

I'm sorry, but I must disagree with you, as does Mitsubishi.

I check my oil every time I fill up with gas, like they used to do in the old days of full service gas stations.

I do sympathize with the original poster, and like many others, if it is not warrantied, I would recommend not having Mitsu install a new motor.

Buying a new car, and keeping it mod free....

In the manual it says it is RECOMMENDED that you change the oil every 3k...not check the **** every week. I do, but i have a heavily modified car. As far as mitsu is concerned, a motor that burns oil with 2x,000 miles on it should be replaced in itself....much less if that burning oil caused the motor to take its last breath.

You can disagree all you want, but that isn't right. They can't expect half the people who buy a new car to check the f'n oil once a week....9 out of 10 people probably don't change it often enough either.

Total BS.

How is the driver responsible for the car sucking up oil if he maintains it according to the owners manual?

Good luck with mistu rep.

Leaking TC, getting replaced under warranty.

Took my car to the dealer because i thought my TC was leaking. It is and they are going to replace it under waranty. I have a few mods, catback, downpipe, mbc and intake and it wasn't an issue. ALso getting the chipping spoiler replaced as well. Just thought i'd share my good experience with a mitsu dealer that has taken care of me numerous times even though i didnt buy a car from them. Anything i should be aware of or be curioius about as this replacement is going on? thanks
