Opinions- will Mitsu grant me my warranty

Hello All,

I called Mitsubishi and told them my front 02 sensor was out, I let them know I have engine modifications (I'm not going to lie and I'm not taking out all my mods to have a sensor replaced). I told them I'm sure my mods didn't affect the reason of my 02 sensor burning out.

Here's there response:

With the lancer evolution a lot of people come in wanting warranty for servicing there cars when the engine modifications themselves alter the amount of gas flowing through the engine causing things such as sensors to go out.

Then the Mitsu manager there told me to bring my car down and they will take a look at it, to see if the modifications themselves did infact cause my 02 sensor to go out. If not will be replaced under warranty. Initially warranty on 02 sensors is 3 years 36k miles for the reference.

Now.. there's 3 Mitsubishi dealers left in my state... all in very inconvenient locations for me, I work 60 hours a week, I have very limited time to take a trip down to Mitsu and they will need to order the part if indeed I was going to replace it so I would plan on making 2 trips to Mitsu.

The sensor itself is $294.00, without installation cost which shouldn't be much added on.. Do you guys think this is worth it for me to go and have it replaced and will they give me warranty with my Mod's.. (look at my sig).

My opinion is NO they won't warranty my car. I also think that it's not worth it to go through all this BS.. the only thing holding me back is that I'm broke right now and even the slim chance of them replacing it for free seems to keep me from just ordering the part and dealing with it myself.

There is chanced that my 02 sensor is not even plugged in from when I got my cam shafts installed it was required the 02 sensor being unplugged for a period of time. That will have to be traced back as well.

Opinions Please!

I don't think they will warranty the sensor, too many mods.

With the mods you have I'd be very surprised if they warrantied a bad O2 sensor.

I'm not claiming to be an expert on the O2 sensors or anything, but your gut is probably right if you think it won't get covered under warranty. With the cams installed (and I'm assuming supporting mods like a fuel pump, exhaust, etc.), you dealer will probably laugh you out of the service shop. Then again, you might have a cool guy at the service counter like I did the last time and get lucky. Either way, good luck.

Your warranty will probably be void even if your car is stock so being modded chance is it's 99.9 % voided but good luck.

You're right everybody wants to be just like you and have their parents buy them a car.

I could go out and buy 2 IX's right now in cash so please get over yourself and stop spamming the board with repetiative, pointless threads.

Wow ...that is a really expensive O2 sensor. It would not be that much more to get a wide band with a simulated narrow band output.

i know he has no engine warranty with those mods, but why would his 02 sensor not be covered. if it broke when it was messed around with when he installed cams that is one thing, but if it is just defaulty they should cover it. i don't know what makes 02 sensors go bad, but I figure it would come from either leaded fuel, or too much fuel.. he leaned out his afrs and made it more consitent. would that not prolong the life of an 02 sensor. i also assume this guy gets better mpg with cams then he did before, and in effect, burned less fuel over that mileage and time. like i said i know nothin about the life of an 02 sensor i am just looking at it logically.

Give Grava Mitsubishi a call in Medford ask for Mike. They claim to be a Mod friendly dealer. If you look in the North East forum you will find Mikes post. I had my 5K service done there, not a word about my mods.
