For sure I would remove any mods that can be seen. Hidin things such as the cams and arp head studs dont matter . The afc might be a problem with some dealers it would be best to hide this some how. Other than that they should cover it just as long as you didnt slip up and tell them your VIN and name and the mods you had done.

I purchased one when I bought my 03' used. I guess it goes into effect as soon as the factory warranty is out which is very soon for me. I will see how it is when it comes time. I extended it to 10yr/100,000mi for $1800. I wonder if I could reduce that since I probably don't need it for that long.

Never, never, give in to an aftermarket warranty scam unless your Nostradumbass. They're legal but a scam. The $ go right in to the salesman's pocket. Read consumers reports.

The salespeople are hard pushers and sometimes convincing, they constantly trick good hearted people into these overpriced unnessesities. If you got it try to get your money out of it somehow

I'd hardly call them a scam. What I think you meant to say is that the variance between insurance companies, policy terms, and coverage is so great that the sales people are able to add quite a bit of mark up. Yes, some people have been scammed.

Just as you should know the invoice price of the car you buy before going to the dealer, one should also research extended warranty prices before buying them.

FWIW, I got mine extended to 100K for only $850. Even if I only take it in for a TO bearing at 95K miles, it has paid for itself.

The service manager at my dealer told me aftermarket was even more strict. There are many different aftermarket warranty companies and I'm sure some are better/worse than others.

Try and get something Big covered and see if they have a problem with your mod's and I promise you will be singing a different tune(ie:bent valves, shortblock, tranny, transfer case, rear diff.,)As far as small stuff, they give authorization over phone, but try and get something expensive covered under that policy and see how quickly it gets DENIED
As far as $$$$ going in salesmans pocket, not true, but going into F&I persons pocket,100% true. That is how the F&I guys make their $$$$$,besides the intrest rate that they give you.

Well, I just got the tranny rebuilt and shimed for free with my current mods! They even paid for a rental! They sent a REP who said "You have many MODs but I see no abuse in the tranny".
You just need to know what you are buying not just believe what they tell you! I paid $900 for my warranty. I'm now at 104K so I'm on my own but evey claim I had was covered with no issue!

Who was the extended warranty through, what kind of deductable? Just wondering so that others on here with under 60,000 miles would be able to purchase this Golden warranty as that would be the 1st that I have ever seen cover any major repair.

Which company did you go with? I haven't purchased an extended warranty on my STi, but I have considered it, just for peace of mind. I'm going to have this car for at least 6 years, because my wife is entitled to our next new car. I don't know if I'm going to go with a Subaru factory warranty, or an aftermarket warranty.

I'll have to check my paperwork. It was offered through my Mitsu dealer and covered more than just the powertrain. I can tell you this, it all depends on the REP they send on what they cover. I had a good one so no worries! I had no deductable.
