Or get the gap insurance along with a great insurance policy and drive it off a cliff when you're done with it. If nothing else, you'll have a great ride and a new car.

How do dealerships act as far as warrenties if I buy a used evo? I plan on buying a stock 05 with warrenty still left (It goes down from 60k to 36k on second owner, right?) and hope to be able to take it in if something goes wrong.

The one thing I enjoy about my current acura is that they do great warrenty work. I had a grind on my RSX in 2nd and 3rd and they put in all new syncos no problem.

yep...the 10yr 10k mile warrenty is only for the ORIGINAL buyer only, once its sold than that warrenty is out the door and all you get is the standard one that mitsubishi gives on all there cars

Not good..........I just bought my 06 IX SE, had it for alittle over 2 weeks......Last week, I noticed at any speed the RPM's would quickly shoot up over 8k and then drop down again to a normal rpm. This would happen in any gear. I have also always smelled what appeared to be a burning clutch....from day 1. Also the first time i drove it, 5th gear would grind, thought it was just me, but it never stopped. So yesterday i finally took it in after 3 days of that weird rpm stuff and without even looking at it, the service rep said, its a blown clutch. So i told him to test drive it and he came back and said that definitely the clutch is toast. So the service manager calls me and says that it will 1400 to look at it and replace. I told them the damn car isnt even registered yet, how does this happen so fast? They said their hands are tied, nothing they can do. They said if they do pull it out, and they can prove it was abused, then nothing is covered. If it shows that its mfg defect, then everything is coverd. I told them to hold up, while i called mitsubishi direct. They told me that there have been lots of problems with this issue, and opened a claim for me, and a case rep would get back to me. So i gave the dealer the ok to rip it out and see......im awaiting to hear what they find, since i KNOW i never raced it once, and its gonna be mfg error! The sad part is, i traded in a perfectly fine workin vehicle for THIS!

This is the kinda thing that's kept me from pulling the trigger and buying a brand new IX MR SE.

There has been so much trouble with IX's lately. I love my 03 more and more with every one of these posts i read so hassle free. 50k the stock clutch lasted. Anything I have to fix from this point on will be fine due to what I owe on it and whatever I replace it with will be 10x better than stock. Not knocking you but it sucksespecially if you have to end up paying for it. On top of the $30000 car you just bought two weeks ago. That you traded in a perfectly fine working car for. I hope it all works out.

I even got JAG, the army's legal department Judge Advocit General, involved and the only thing I got out of it was a huge headache and the ability to unlimitedly mod my car to the rest of the time i own it.... No more warranty.....
I read from an earlier post that you drove your car across the river. Why should mitsu warranty your repair.

Car 03 EVO VIII with 59K hard miles
First stock cluth. Never raced. No mods. Dead @9K miles. Replaced under waranty with some understandable hassle about heat marks on flywheel.

Second stock clutch 9K to present (59K) and still pulling with minor issues (RPM spike during shift). Moded and raced since 20K miles. Based on my experience, some clutches are defective as with my first because it obviously wasn't the driver in this case.

I am trying to get my faded brembos replaced under warranty right now. Expecting call from warranty rep any day. Wish me luck!!!

Does anyone ever try to enforce the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act when they get denied?

I would think more people would do this. It's the law. Can't you FORCE them to honor the warranty if they deny it for a BS reason?

I'm very well aware of the legal hassle that would ensue....but I'm sure SOMEONE has done it, right? (Like if a whole engine blows, and they deny your warranty for something unrelated).

This is why I've always thought the Moss Magnusson Act as it applies to modified vehicles is a joke. I suppose it's been done, but a manufacturer who is determined to win could probably do so under just about any circumstances. If your tranny gives out and all you have is an aftermarket exhaust, they could argue it created additional horsepower that was beyond the capabilities of the stock transmission. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying that if a dealer or manufacturer is determined, the Act is toothless when applied to modified cars.

Generally, the cost of fixing the "fill in the blank" here is less than the cost of pursuing a MM Act claim in court.
