Seriously...what good is a warranty if claims are blanket rejected. My guess is that this idea that all warranty claims are rejected is more myth than fact, but I need data from actual owners to verify.

this is the truth...

the fact is that most people put mods on their car, and then try to get work done on it. If you mod your car definitely dont expect to have any warranty left... But you should KNOW that before you mod.

the sad thing is that people here think that because EVERYONE mods their evo, it should be covered under warranty. Thats just not the case and many people find out the hard way.

get an evo, its got a great warranty and if you keep it stock you'll have no problem getting warranty service. Just dont bring it in 3 weeks later with a roasted clutch do to 50 drops

peace

Mitsubishi voided my tranny waranty because of the composite stock clutch they pulled out of it when they rebuilt the tranny for the 3rd time..

They local service rep reported my car had a "performace ecu, turbo boost control, larger turbo, bigger injectors, bov, ic, and was lowered"

the car is lowerd. and has a K&N filter.. Long story short.. he ****ed me. The 3rd time my tranny messed up he wasn't willing to fix it he said they put a racing clutch in it last time they fixed it. And that he had seen the car with all these modifications. He didn't have pictures of this at all or anything. The car has full service records and history of warranty work. He just decided he didn't want to deal with me anymroe and made up several lies and voided my warranty. Do not buy an evo thinking it will be covered.

Needless to say i double clutch going into 5th gear now. I'll be getting a shep tranny soon and upgrading my stock clutch.

OK, I've read some of the horror stories. That window tint one probably takes the cake, but I still think a lawyer would want that case.

You on the other hand, have a 2003, and are on your 3rd transmission! They covered the 1st two! They only voided the transmission part of your warranty. Have you considered the possibility that you are doing something wrong?

I almost don't even believe the window tinting story. Dreamlike1, Brad Benson Mitsubishi here in NJ offers hp packages (from turbo trix) that do nothing to the warranty except taking the clutch off of it. You get 340hp ("stage 2") and retain everything but clutch coverage. Even if you’re not interested in the package, this may be a good sign that this dealer would be slightly more flexible than other dealers when it comes to warranty work (regardless of what people say about the sales people there.)

I cant speek of much. But the dealer here in El Paso wont cover ****... My motor threw a rod do to the floods here in july. I had the dealer fix it against my will... the insurance was gonna let me send it to buschur but the dealer started the work first.... anyway, they new that my engine locked up at 70mph plus and said that my warranty is void because of heat spots on my clutch and flywheel. They have screwed me on my car since the day i ordered my car... from changing trade-in value, the price of my evo, not installing order equipment. **** like that. I hate the dealer here in town. Now my clutch is dust and I am waiting on a twin disc. Since i picked up the car I have actually only driven it for about 5weeks.... since june 24.... I have been in numerous arguements with the sales manager, dealer manage and service manager.... I even got JAG, the army's legal department Judge Advocit General, involved and the only thing I got out of it was a huge headache and the ability to unlimitedly mod my car to the rest of the time i own it.... No more warranty.....

There's much hate for Brad Benson in NJ on these forums if you search. That they told you that the clutch would be the only thing no longer covered by the warranty confirms it considering the clutch isn't normally covered anyway unless you can convince them it's a defect in the 1st 12k miles. Good luck!

Uh... not to be a dick but: "but the dealer started the work first...." is your fault.

You either told them they could, or you caved and didn't screw them on it.

I thought people got clutches covered under warranty relatively often? And isn't all warranty work for things that are "defective"? The car is suppose to last X miles and if it doesn't and it’s not your fault, it was a defect. I think a large amount of the hate comes from the sales end.

When I was decideing between the Evo or STI the Subaru saleslady told me that their warranty is still valid even if you race the STI because it is a race car. She said that you are suppose to drive it hard and fast, and that Mitsu would void the evo's warrenty for any signs of racing....still got the evo

You listen to the Sales people?

They'll tell you anything to make a deal... It doesn't have to be true... You just have to get it in writing...

This is true...her selling point was that subaru spelled backwards is "u ar a bus" and a evo is just a evo.

My dealership is pretty cool - when I took my tinted, intake/TBE exhaust VII in (at 34k miles) to get the CF wing replaced and the sunroof fixed, they didn't bat an eye.

The guy in fact told me "I saw your intake and exhaust - that **** ain't got nothing to do with the problems we're fixing, so don't worry about it... I'm also impressed that you're still on the stock clutch - I've been replacing them (NOT covering them) at under 10k".

Oh, about the tint - that guy who posted that they denied his warranty for tint really DID get hosed. That's BS.

And for the OP - if you "beat on" any car, they're going to void your warranty. Nissan tried like hell not to pay for new tires on my 350Z - and then came out with a TSB that showed almost all the 03's had tire feathering issues not due to driver abuse.

The dealer can claim abuse if you came in and your car has excessive tire, break, and clutch wear. These are all based on their observation, not yours. SO, its all up to the dealer, not you to decide. Because they are the "experts" on automotive repair, not you the customer. Also if you take your car to the race track and you crash it, your insurance will not cover you, so why would the car's warranty cover wear and tear if you decide to race your vehicle?
