Talked to dealer about Mods + Warranty...

Went to my local dealer, and talked directly to the head tech like the fleet manager told me to.

Asked him just what I could mod on the car without hindering my warranty. Here is what he told me:

"You can mod whatever you want. I would suggest an intake, tbe, mbc and a chip/flash. The only thing we ask you to stay away from is Nitrous. Other than that I don't see any problems."

He went on to tell me how he has always loved the Evo's and how he used to race his old car .... couldn't remember what it was, was gettin excited about all my upcoming mods...

Now, of course, this is all before I take it in for a problem and get shot down because my windows are tinted. But, he told me to talk to him directly if I had any problems.

Anyways, kudos to Michael, the lead tech, at Buzz Leanord in Panama City Florida.

He'll allow a MBC and a flash? Wow. That is quite awesome. I was always under the impression that a boost controller would automatically void the warranty ("I accidently set it at 42 PSI on my stock motor and now I think I broke something. Will please take a look at it and fix whatever's broken?" )

Ya, kudos to them.....now that they know you're gonna mod, they will screw you. The manager will say "It's not me, it's corporate, they will not honor it so we cannot, really, it's not me, it's THEM". He will pass the buck and you will still be SOL. Search the threads for Mitsu horror stories, they are on here.

I know, there are plenty of horror stories.
He even told me to upgrade the turbo....lol.
Real nice guy, said that Mitsubishi doesn't always need to know what has been modded.
This is why I bypassed the Service manager and went right to the lead tech.

Mitsubishi Regional Reps are evil. Any repair over a certain dollar amount will require the Regional Rep to sign-off. And you can be sure they will void your warranty if possible. Remember, the dealership (should) want to say anything to make you happy and in turn gain more business, the Rep will want to save corporate as much money as possible and in turn receive a bigger bonus.

Slightly off-topic, but I'm willing to bet Regional reps are rewarded based on ratio of successful rejected claims to accepted ones. What does this mean to consumers? The best Regional reps will be pr**ks, and Mitsubishi will want to keep them around.

just because 1 guy said its ok to mod it doesnt mean the other thousands of mitsubishi dealerships will feel the same way...every dealership is different..

Of course the guy you talked to will be cool and tell you do do stuff to your car, your the customer he will make you feel good, than when u have problems down the road all they do is want your money..thats how delerships work

Nice! I'll be moving to Panama City, FL next month for USN Dive School. There till March 2007, so we'll have to meet up.

Nice, the school is just on the other side of PC from Tyndall. Atleast iirc that is where it is.

yeah i would definitely get that in writing with the dealership heading at the top and everything.....nothing is legal until it is written on paper and signed. im sure he'll say all that now, but when you blow your motor and cook the turbo and come in for warranty, he'll turn around and tell you that you gotta pay for everything....
