Trust me I got a lawyer and everything. They don't have to honor it if they think you have abused your car. They claimed that I abused my car therfor voided my warranty. As I was on the phone with the mistu district rep he asked what I had done to my car I told him it was 100% stock except for 15% window tint. He voided me for "abusing and modifiying" my car.

Im sure someone can dig up my old posts about it.

If you're looking for a car with good warranty service...the evo is not for you.
I am afraid to take my car in for regular service...I just have a TBE.

BTW, my car is not abused in any way.

Honestly if you know how to drive your EVO probably wont break. I have 30k hard 300+WHP miles and its been rock solid from day one.

In most cases (not all) clutch and tranny issues are due to the idiot behind the wheel.

I thought the 10yr/100K did NOT apply to EVO's, just the standard 3yr/36K... Thats what I was told when I bought my RA...
My '04 evo has the 10 year/100K mile warranty. I'm still totally stock drivetrain. Only mods are wheels, BR air filter, VG, tint, and boost gauge. The dealership I have been using (same one I bought it from) has been good so far. I just barely used my last free scheduled maintenance at 45K miles. Still on stock clutch too. The dealer has commented several times to me that I'm the only local evo they have seen with over 20K miles on the stock clutch.

People seriously need to learn how to drive. You can have fun with the car and not trash it.

SEMA website

This is just a short blurb about the law...there's really too much info to repost. Check the site above.

The Law

Federal law sets forth requirements for warranties and contains a number of provisions to prevent vehicle manufacturers, dealers and others from unjustly denying warranty coverage. With regard to aftermarket parts, the spirit of the law is that warranty coverage cannot be denied simply because such parts are present on the vehicle, or have been used (see Attachment A).The warranty coverage can be denied only if the aftermarket part caused the malfunction or damage for which warranty coverage is sought. Disputes in this area usually boil down to arguments over facts and technical opinions, rather than arguments over interpretations of the law.
How did your window tint cause failure?

Bump! I had a stock evo VIII. I took it to the dealer to have the clutch replaced and at that time I complained about a fifth gear grind. Since they could not reproduce the grind with the clutch slipping they would not even look at it. I had them install an ACT clutch, After they replaced the cluth it still had the grind. I asked to get it replaced and they told me to bring it back when it happens under normal driving conditions?? Well it got worse and worse and when I brought it back they said NO, because a aftermarket clutch. The old service manager was no longer there. So they would not do it.

Long story short, My experience with the dealership is not good.

+1 on the clutch, i've owned 2 DSMs with well over 80K and they were on the stock clutch, no slipping either.. i dont understand how people can burn theirs out at 15-20K?? its kind of sad

This is all depending on the word "IF". Thats IF Mitsubishi sends out a corprate tech. Thats IF you have a good service manager. and last but not least thats IF your lucky! This is clearly a "what if" thread and could never fully be concluded with an answer. I love the evo for what it is not its warranty.

Its like the movie tommy boy; I could crap in a box and put a warranty sticker on it but its still crap. Personaly from what I have seen the 4g63 is strong everlasting motor that has been tested through the years. STI motors i see come in and take almost 2 hours just to change spark plugs...

If your asking what we think you should get, you allready know our answer, Hyundai offers the same warranty and im sure that the fastest elantra is never will be as fun as a evo! BEST OF LUCK BUYING!!!

How about not abusing the car. No car will withstand abuse. Also your lawyer isnt gonna do much to a multi billion dollar company. You would spend more money fighting a tranny/motor work then just getting it fixed. Not including the headaches your gonna get, the amount of time the car will be down. Just drive the car normally, and once in a while let it rip.

The law is the law, and it doesn't matter what your district rep says about it. The warranty (yes limited warranty, as every warranty in the history of man has been called) is a legal document, and they are bound by federal and state law to honor it to the letter. Class action suits have been put together for much less cause than I'm hearing here. Best of luck to current owners, maybe I'll be able to commiserate one day!

The question I have is; How will you buy an evo and not mod it??? Thats like giving a 44 to a kid and saying "dont pull the trigger" We all start one way saying only this much but all end up in the same place, selling it or building a stroker or a bigger turbo! This is a habbit forming car you either love it or hate it.

So dont buy it if you dont all ready drool over this car. Because youll be better off with a car you do care about, than one you dont. The warranty means crap about any car, its just the words that help you sleep at night but in the end no one gets what they want from a warranty.

warranties are a complete waste of time....i've never tried to get anything covered under them....or pay to extend a warranty etc.....the thing is...if something was going to break and have to be covered under a warranty the company wouldn't be giving you the warranty...that's like giving money away....plus look at companies like honda or toyota...their warranties are only like 40,000 miles...but who cares...nothing tears up on them until like 240,000 miles...(this is not an exact mileage number but you get my point)..i mean my moms accord has 200,000 miles on it and nothing has ever went wrong with it...just the norm...oil changes, tires, brake pads, etc....all of which aren't covered in a warranty
