in my opinion the flash is what really killed you

you tampered directly with the ecu parameters...I honestly doubt you'll win

if I was them I'd argue your case 100% but I'm not and I hope it works out for you

Right, but I'm providing them with the OEM timing/fuel maps, new timing/fuel maps, ECU logs, and A/F dyno charts showing how a lean condition or over advanced timing leading to detonation was not possible. The engine tear down also shows no apparent detonation present as well as I am providing them with statements from a few mechanics who are ruling out detonation as a possible issue. Due to the fact that the rod that broke first was furthest from the oil pump, situations such as internal oil leaks, poorly torqued rod bolts and such should have beel evaluated first before any assumptions can be made. Nevermind 1000 cars running the same fuel/timing maps have never had a similar issue. That should say something right there.

..Since Mitsubishi is probably reading this right now, that's all I'll say I'm including at this time

My dyno chart also shows boost was set to the stock level. The dyno was completed 1 week before the engine failure.

yes i got the wareanteed with all my mods. they dident even ask any questions. i just called and said the eing waspealing and i went in and they changed it with no questions at all.

Another Clutch Claim Warranty

Well I bought a used 2006 lancer evolution with 13,000 miles. Now the clutch is slipping @ 20,000 miles so I took it to stevens creek, mitsubishi here in CA. And now I'm paying $1,900 for a replaced clutch, resurfaced flywheel, throwout bearing, pressure plate. Service Writer said that the clutch is only warranted only until 12,000/12 months.

I was told by the dealer that the clutch is a "wear item" like tires or brake pads, and isn't covered under warranty at all. But the question is, what were you or the previous owner doing to the car that the clutch wore out after only 20,000 miles? Lots of runs at the dragstrip? Street racing? And if you're paying $1900, why not get a stronger aftermarket clutch, like one from Exedy that will last longer and handle abuse better?

The clutch is indeed a wear item like the tires, windshield wipers or brakes. Of course, if these are defective, they should be replaced or repaired under warranty. The problem is that these items can be damaged or worn out prematurely due to abuse, overuse or poor technique of use. In these cases, the warranty does not apply..... In the case of the EVO clutch, I know from experience that if you slip the clutch a little too much during hard launches and do several of those, your clutch will be toast (no pun intended) in short order. With my '03 EVO VIII, the pressure plate seemed to be a little on the weak side and the clutch disk became glazed rather than worn out. It would probably be a good idea to replace the clutch with a higher power holding unit if you intend to race the car or simply cannot learn to modulate the pedal during regular driving. However, in my opinion, the stock clutch is quite good enough for everyday driving. And much superior for it's driveability over the off-on switch quality of racing clutches like the Exedy twin disk, etc. Oh yeah, make damned sure that the tech who replaces the clutch knows what he or she is doing and make sure it's a dealership or major shop who can back up their warranty......

What a stupid statement! Where do I begin, the fact that you bought a used Evo and the clutch was worn prematurely and that's the Evos fault (it still could have been your fault) or the fact the YOU feel the 12/12 warranty isn't good enough for a wear item.

All manufacturers have a 12/12 warranty on wear items, except BMW which seems to cover brakes under their included maintenance. to you for thinking you are owed something that you are not!

Hmm... this should be no surprise as the clutch is a wear item. The mystery here is why you would pay jacked up prices for a stock clutch that proved weak once before, rather than replace it with a more appropriate ACT, Exedy, etc. clutch.

Why are you having the dealer put in a stock clutch for $1900? You could get the exedy twin installed for that price.

Of course you can race it. You just have to be prepared to replace or repair parts which fail due to abuse such as racing.... And by the way, the EVO is not sold a s a racing car. It's a road legal passenger automobile.....
