Warranty Issues <Mega Merge>
Wow. How are you able to drive a car to the dealership with a thrown rod? Are you sure the rod has been broken? If so, I SERIOUSLY doubt that engine will run. Is the dealership even sure what is wrong with it? Are they just trying to get you to pay some ridiculously high labor/parts charge for an engine rebuild because they have no clue what is causing the oil consumption and the only way they can "fix" it is to tear the motor down and build it up again? To me, this sounds like the case. It also sounds like they are standing behind their "warranty denied" claim because they don't know exactly how to write it up and submit it to headqarters. I would start persuing this: "How the hell did my car throw a rod but it did not push that rod out of the side of the cylinder wall/through the oil pan and how is it I can still drive my car?"
this sitiuation sucks either way, you lost the oil out your motor! the dealer will tell you that higher boost pressure puts more load on the pistons probably causing detonation therefore ****ing your rings & cyl. walls up causing the failure. no oil means rod bearing takes a ****. good luck though if your boost was at stock levels you can win this battle in my opinion.
90gsx - I asked a question almost like that and I was given the run around that my mods were the cause. I can tell they have no idea because I worked for a ford dealer for a year and when techs were giving different reasons for the same failure they didn't know sand from sky on what the hell happened. Next thing i'll hear is that all my mods worked together to over throw my engine.
maybe its an aftermarket conspiricy and they are working in conjunction with the automakers and the moon men too!

but whatever they have done at the service department (maybe some amateur technician was revving it, what not), only they would know
can you tell us where the car is at right now (im assuming the dealership), did they try to start the engine, and the rest of the details?
side note: when my eclipse's motor blew, i left it at the dealership's lot (service department), waiting for them to estimate the cost of the repair... 2 weeks later they called me, telling me my car had been vandalized... my rims were stolen... my stereo was pulled... dont trust the dealership!!! (i highly suspect it was somebody from the dealership that did it)
You burnt up all your oil. probably doing it for a while, little by little getting worse. Causes:
worn or broken piston rings --- over boosting
oil rings broken or stuck in the groove allowing oil in the combustion chamber
Valve seals not sealing out oil---- over boosting
When you say No oil, do you mean no oil reading in the stick or no oil came out of the pan when they drained it?
Sorry about what happened but I don't think you have a chance on winning this claim with the mods they found in your car
Good Luck man....hope the dealer meets you at least half way on the expense.

the car stalled twice on the way to mitsu and i was able to start it back up. The boost controller is a mute point because it was set to stock levels. Regardless if it was hooked up or not they would be blaiming my exhaust.
If anyone has any ideas on how the car could burn that much oil and still function properly it would really help because when i talk to them again i'll have some ammunition.

there was no oil on the dipstick so i can only figure that i have very little to no oil left in the engine. To consume that much oil in 3 weeks though wouldn't I be leaving a smoke screen behind me when i drove down the street.

Yes you would. It'd be like following a Dodge Caravan. he he he
Most of your oil is being burnt up in the combustion chamber. since your running catless, there is no oil build up in the converter for it to smoke up enough for you to notice.
I know 3 weeks is a short time to consume that much oil. But how many miles did you drive within those 3 weeks?
hmm this might be a lil off topic but.. where did you take the car to get the last oil change done?
And if they blame your exhaust rather than your manual boost controller for "the blown bottom end", you have a strong case, my friend
