Another Evo to S2k thread.....
Well EvoM I haven't been an entirely HUGE active member on this board, but I have a post or two. I had been battling back and forth about selling my Evo after owning it for roughly 3 years. So my friend let me drive his Ap1 S2k around for a week and I was instantly hooked on it. I have never in my life felt a better gear box. I love the way it shifts and I also love where everything is positioned on the car. I love where the stereo controls are and having cruise control is something I had forgotten. Secondly, I used to get a good bit of attention in the Evo, but the attention I got in the S2k outdid the Evo by far. Not that that really matters, but it damn sure feels good. The s2k really feels like an extension of my body, I guess because it's so small lol. Although not flashy, the interior is very nice and I'm extremely happy with it and happen to like it more than the Evo as well. The handling of the s2k is unbelievable and even though it is not as fast as my Evo, it still felt nice and quick.
Anyways, after driving it around for a while I just had to have one. I put the Evo up for sale and it was sold in less than two weeks. I purchased a 2003 black on black AP1 already equipped with a spoon exhaust and testpipe. So I'll list my opinion on the Pros and Cons of switching to the s2k
Pros:
1. Looks better inside and out IMO
2. Transmission is ungodly
3. Interior controls are more abundant than the Evo. (You can do much more)
4. Drop top of course
5. The S2k community is more friendly here in VA.
6. CHEAPER INSURANCE BY FAR!! And I'm 25 years old.
7. 9k Rev limiter and pulls wonderful from vtec engagement to 9.2k
8. Handling is far superior in my opinion.
Cons:
1. Even though it has little nooks here and there, storage is limited.
2. Very small car. If you're a big guy, this car is not for you. (I'm 5'11 186 lbs)
3. No more AWD and you don't get that "throw back" feeling
4. Definitely a bit slower.
5. All the convertible tops of s2k's are a bit squeaky after time
6. 2 seats, so no more riding the friends around. (Hell I didn't do that anyway
)
So even though, in my opinion, there are just as many cons as pros, the cons aren't really cons to me. But they may weigh heavily on your decision to make the move because we're all different and have different tastes. As I've said before, this is all just my opinion. For the 3 years I had the Evo it was a blast and a great car. I'd do it again of someone asked me. However, I couldn't be happier with my black on black s2k

S2k's are great cars. Everything the OP has said about them is spot on IMO. A friend of mine has one equipped with a comptech supercharger, J's Racing Header and T1R full titanium exhaust, and it's a load of fun to drive. I would say it does handle better than an evo. The s2000 seems to be a much more rigid car to me...very solid handling and steering response. I must admit it is one hell of a nice sounding car when it's wide open. Would I ever trade my evo for an s2k? No. But I would like to own both!
I've driven s2k's before, and I must say, they are amazing cars! I just prefer the Evo. The only thing the S2k gives you that the Evo doesn't is the low" race car" feel. other than that, I feel my Evo is fast in everyway
If I could, I'd have both!

I got it at an unbeatable price. 6 grand less than trade in value. was a friend's car so I know how it was treated. I ended out coming on top with this. I owe less on the s2k than it's worth. So I could sell it tomorrow and make money.
Of course, I'd love to own both, but for now I'm lovin my s2k.

I daily drove an AP1 for 3 years. Its like any honeymoon period, the little quirks don't bother you because you're 'in love' with it. Once that's over, watch out, it will become increasingly more and more annoying to drive. It did with me, and I was GLAD to get rid of it.
Let me know how the drone from 3-5k starts to wear on you after a year or so. Also, the AP1 motor doesn't go to 9,000. It goes to 8,900. Search S2Ki.com if you dont believe me. Also, once you decide you want some power (it's going to happen. It did to me after a freaking SE-R Altima beat me on a freeway on ramp.) dont waste your time with anything other than forced induction. It's the only way to make power on that motor.
Good luck, it's an amazing little car. I just kind of cant believe you traded an Evo for it

My friend Russ has a AP1 S2000. Blew two piston rings in a short period of time and sold it back to his insurance company or something. We've driven each other's car, but he still wants to get another S2000. That car is very high on the fun factor, so I can't really blame him.
I went from an AP1 S2k to an 03 Evo and NEVER regretted it. The fit and finish on the S2k are definitely better but the S2k doesn't come close to the Evo in terms of performance. Plus, a long drive in the Honda was a guaranteed headache with all that wind noise coming through the paper thin top.
S2Ks are nice, but they are torqueless. My RSX Type S was nice, but I got sick of getting beaten by Volvo's Dodge Dakotas, Old F-Bodies.
Honda has great reliability, and they are stopping production of the AP2...so they might be worth something one day.
Good luck with it.

I owned two S2k's before my evo, honestly I loved the car, never had any issues that werent taken care of by Honda. I had one of the first in 00 and had the clutch issue, as well as a bad ecu but once they were fixed never had another problem. I also launched them @ 7K and never had a single problem. I think your assessment is very good to be honest, the shifting is 100000 times better in the s2k and anyone that says different is crazy. You will miss the power band and you need to be careful in the rain, I spun mine a few times when I was being careful so just watch out for that. Good Luck on whatever you decide.
hope to see a "traded my s2k for an evo" thread soon! j/k hey man, it's your life, don't let these other members let you down...can't believe you traded an evo for one though...and parts are much more too...winter's around the corner...aaack bad choice, dude!
wow!you are retarded!a evo for a s2k?! i drove a s2k with mods and wow,it was ungodly slow.and even raced a fully built 450hp s2k with gt35R and aem and it was ugly.this is by far one of the dumbest cars you can get into after a evo.
i hope you have a 2JZ swap in the future to make it worth the switch
