It just isn't demanded enough. It's not that difficult to manufacture or that expensive. Usually the more expensive SMTs, as with cars, just get faster. For a 270hp car a decent $2000 SMT is suitable.

Saying it's too expensive is really spouting of a lot of misinformation.

The MR Spyder is known for being abel to be shifted faster manually, but the down shifts are quicker, and never miss. Plus one missed shift and you can kiss the gains of perfect fast shifts good by.
It is a bit slower, but it's been a few years down the road now, and I'd bet one that would run about $2500 would be as fast as the M3 version and that would be perfect.

Puegot or Citroen could put out the hottest performing rally racer in the history of motorsports...they could have a built-in hummer-giver in the dash...you'd still get run off the road for driving one. I think France has pretty much eliminated themselves from selling us cars.
"Whatryudrivin?"
... "a Puegot"
I'm sure the same racism/nationalism existed after WWII towards japanese and german vehicles/owners. I wouldnt' let someone elses ignorance and stupidity sway my decision to purchase something.

Maybe we can just buy the bits straight from Getrag or Borg-Warner and tape some up and down buttons on the dash and steering wheel and on the no longer useful shifter and make a homebrew version...
What is DC? Daimler Chrysler?
They are only strategic partners, but they could quickly use their bits..

If they can't even add cruise for 2004, i'll be a bit more confused as to who mitsu is marketing this towards and or who mitsu is listening in market reasearch.. The stripped down version would make sense without cruise, but not a power lock/window/mirror etc version like the VIII is.

If they don't care to listen, that's fine. THey have to deaql with the cars sitting on their lots. Maybe I'm way off base, but I think most potential owners would be more interested with a few minor tweaks. Better Aero. SMT and cruise. And those are not anything near as difficult as getting a different motor EPA certified or crash tested.
Skip the stupid SMT! I don't need that to be a good and fast driver.
Bring us that MR model Evo! Aluminum roof, forged rims...badass color...that is all that I want for Christmas!!!

can call up their big daddy - DC - and ask for an SMT... I'm sure DC-spec'd stuff would work out just fine
