I wish it was the other way around or perhaps Subie made the Evo and Mitsu the STi because I really wants me an Evo :-p

have you read the warranty and maintenance manual? there is a section on dispute resolution. first you contact a district rep. then if you still have a problem you contact the national center for dispute resolution. its all in the manual.

Do you have any mods? are you giving the whole story....??

How does the independant shop know its a piston? Could be a rod bearing, a blown head gasket....etc

And I have been dealing with sport mitsu and holler mitsu for alot longer than he has and I ahve never had any problems.

Hell Ive had a modded gst and gone to both shops in orlando and they ahve never denied any of my waranty claims....

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. It's exam week and I've been busting my ***. Anyway, yes, I am giving you the entire story. I always wait until the car has 10,000 miles before I start modifying it, 10 being my lucky number. Besides, I'm in college and making car payments, I can't afford mods. The independent shop took the head gasket off and found the broken piston. However, there is no way they can determine how it happened unless they take the motor apart.

This will most likely be my last post for a while, as I said before I have exams. I will, however, let you know if anything new comes up.

The sole reason as to why I originally posted is because I know there are people out there deciding between STi and EVO. I was one of them. Words cannot begin to explain the hellish nightmare that I have gone through, and I sincerely just hope I can prevent it from happening to someone else.

3si people have contacted me, telling me their story, and it's clear that Mitsubishi will never change. My post is not a cry for help, nor a cry for sympathy, but simply put I just want to raise awareness.

Watch yourselves guys, and remember, warranties are a false sense of security, especially if it comes from a company like Mitsubishi.

Take care.

you had an independent shop open the engine instead of mitsubishi? if that shop opened that engine before you went to the dealer to complain of your plight then you're toast. of course they will not honor the warranty. they opened the engine because you want to mod the engine and found a broken piston and you want to go back to mitsu to honor the warranty, I do not think they will do that. the situation is not just right. you babied the engine and wanted to mod it?

No doubt, if that is true, then that was pretty foolish. Still, the damage being done, you should follow the instructions in the white dispute resolution handbook you should've gotten when you bought it. If you don't have one, PM me and I'll mail one to you. Get back to us AFTER you followed those steps, otherwise, just letting one dealer jack you around isn't going to solve anything. They don't have the power to void your warranty, only Mitsubishi does.

I think he took the car to Mitsu, they gave him some BS excuse and then he had an independant shop check it out. Why would you go to Mistu and have them tell you it was neglect and then tell them to procede with the work if you knew that you hads not neglected it? If this was me, I would take it to an indelendant shop AFTER Mitsu told me that it was my fault and when that shop found out the cause was a manufacturer defect, then I would go back and sue the **** out of Mitsu for being such asshats.

If you read his original post, I think it is clear what he did was what I have described.

if you are so low on money how did you pay an independent shop to pull the "head gasket"? thats a good amount of labor, and a quick way to void your warranty. why didn't you use the dispute resolution service? who lets a cashier get away with being "off a few dollars?" why don't you have pics of your car in your profile? why is it you have only posted twice? you are a newbie, why should anyone believe a word you're saying? they shouldn't because you don't have to pull the head gasket to see the piston. i'm calling you a liar.

EDIT: avoid the mitsu dealerships in orlando florida, like don mealey mitsubishi aka sport mitsubishi. they will lie to you right in the face.
Well When I was there last week they made a mistake and scratched my rim; immmediately they told me and offered me compensation.

But on to my questions here.... You never stated exactly what they did for diagnostics on your car at the dealership and what the dealership stated was wrong.

I dont think that any dealership would not go into your engine and then tell you what they saw. Did they pull the oil pan? did they pull the head? What kind of neglect were the stating? Racing etc..... Did you not have any oil in the car?

or are you saying that mitsu changed your oil and forgot to fill it or they didnt tighten the drain plug?

Good call, I hadn't even looked at it from this angle.

Could it be that perhaps STi owners are wearing sheeps clothing to get us to be scared of our cars? Or maybe something else?

I have never heard of removing a head GASKET to check for damaged internals......

Who knows.

I would like to see pictures of this work.

you guys are brutal.

Maybe he's just posting what really happened? Why would someone go on an EVO forum to slam a car company and NOT the car? That doesn't make sense. Also, it is true that DSM has a shady rep. no two ways about it.
