Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
Pro - performance, potential for more power, proven engine, practicality, safety of AWD, easy to mod, very mean looking, stock 17" enkei's, stock momo wheel, stock recaros, stock brembos, too many to list!
Cons - dealer service is really that bad, paint peels off the car at random times, a/c doesn't get freezing, supposedly tires and clutch wear out quickly (which are costly to replace)

How's the insurances on the evo?...expensive?...
Btw..is it true that it breaks down easily?..I have a friend, which his boss bought a new Evo....with about 3,000 miles on the meter, it stopped runinng while he was driving the car back home...hmm
So i need your help..
Thanks...

5 gears is ample in the Evo. I have not taken a long trip in it yet; I would probably drive my GF's Impala
if we took a road trip just to keep miles off the Evo.Insurance was a wash with my '97 Maxima.
Breaks down? Depends on how hard you run it. It will cost more to maintain than a non-performance car and you will probably be driving it a lot harder, so expect more in maintenance costs. I don't think the car is naturally unreliable. It is a
, so it will probably be a little less reliable than a Honda by default.
5 speeds are enough. It's only annoying when I go to shift for that non-existent 6th gear on the highway (I had a 6-speed before). No big deal. It is a very tractable engine so staying in a low gear is no problem.
10,500 miles and not a peep of a problem. I have a lot of mods, too, and the car runs like stock.

Buying EVO 8 Summer 2004'-> should I...
I'm looking to buy a EVO once I can come up with a decent downpayment and some financing. I'm shooting to do the purchase by July/August 2004.
My question is should I get the 04' model or should I just wait and get the 05' model.
My only concern is if I get the 04' model, and 05' models receive a redesign/power increase/better equipment, I'll feel stupid for having an older 04' model....
What do you guys recommend?
I just recently sold my 95 GSR for $15,000, and although I could have used that money for a downpayment on a new 03' EVO, I figured it would be wiser for me to pay off ALL of my credit card debts first....
What do you guys think?

Don't worry about the model year numbers. That's a US thing only. The car will change when it "evolves" to the next level. You won't see any changes until the Evo IX comes out, and who knows when that'll be. Could even be in the middle of what we call a model year over here.
The model year for the Evo was just put on there due to US reg's. That's all.

Okay, my main concern is having a 04' model car in summer 04' then in Sept 04' a newly designed more Powerful 05' Evo 9 comes out... I'll feel really STUPID to be stuck with an old design car....
You could have a 2005, and it still be an Evo 8 as well. You could have a 2004 in July and in August a 2005 Evo 9 could come out. There's no way to tell. The life cycle of all the Evolutions have varied, quite dramatically over the years.
Find one you like, and buy it. There's always going to be a bigger/better.
