Given that new Evos are already being discounted by dealerships, this assumption unfortunately seems to be false. For some reason resale values seem to be very poor on these cars. There are a few low mileage ones in the classifieds section for $25k, which sounds pretty bad, though makes sense if you consider that new ones can be had for about $3k more.

My bet would be that a trade-in value would be $22k or so.

Don't know why resale values are so poor on these cars given all the positive publicity they have received. Perhaps people are afraid of a used turbo car?

Trade-in values are going to stink on any car that is only a few months old. Combined with niche market and unfamiliar car in the US, the trade-in/resale values are initially going to be low.

Its because people know this a car that takes beatings. Some people race the hell out of them because it is a rally car.

Same thing with a wrx.

The reason resale sucks is not because of the car itself but because of Mitsubishi itself. Their cars have had notoriously bad resale values over the years......one good car or idea doesn't change market value.

This is why the Honda accord retains good resale value even if there are better choices for the money. Toyota and Honda retain excellent resale values.

Mitsu, Subaru and Dodge doesn't have that luxury....millions of reasons why this is. SOme of warranted. SOme of it not.

Well on this forum itself, every time someone has the courage to ask for a reasonable price, someone has to come in and say, " hey i can get one at the dealer for this much" and then everyone drops their asking price in order to sell.

There is no courage involved - sellers ask for a price that is above market and get told so. One of the primary benefits of the internet is open access to information (see, for example, the list of auction prices of EVOs in December just posted in this thread).

The phenomenon of sellers getting told their asking prices are too high is common across internet car boards - primarily because sellers often confuse what they think their car is worth with what the market thinks it is worth.

I know the truth about that 1st hand. I was actually basing selling hybrid on what others with similarily equipped cars have sold theirs for.....but I didn't take into account where i live so I have to lower my price to be more in line with the cheap bastards that live in my state lol.

Good information in this thread:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=57776

Mileage category A (if you have under 18k miles on your 2003 Evo, no deductions for mileage).

As a basic guide, dealerships usually offer a price between Rough and Average book value on trade-ins, no matter how clean your car is.

Clean: $24,500
Average: $22,550
Rough: $19,925

Add $450 for sunroof

What this means for you is that if you were to try to trade your Evo in today, you could expect them to offer around $20-22k for it and might be able to talk them up to $23k for a super-clean one with very low mileage.

ya know, i don't think the resale value will be TOO bad for this car.

after all, take into account the rx7s: they can still go for like 19k ... and we KNOW they're not the most reliable things on the road..

so, i'm pretty optimistic about this car's resale value... esp. if there aren't that many sold through its lifetime. it's a niche car, and it caters to a certain demographic... much like jdm parts for civics/integras...

Kelly Blue Book doesn't have EVO's up yet, but Edmunds does.
