Yes its does and attacks the rubber also. I've been concerned about this. I've been injecting a 50/50 mix of distilled water and methanol for over a year now and was hoping that a diluted mix wouldn't cause problems. I 've found out that my seals are leaking badly and I don't know if my 50/50 mix has contributed to this. Imagine the guys injecting pure methanol. Also those guys injecting pure denatured alcohol, that's a damn solvent!

I did the boost leak test and found no leak at these seals... I'm surprised as I'm well over 50k and so many of you have the issue.

METH is nasty stuff... its mildly corrosive. it will eat gas tank linings, rubber and aluminum if used in excessive ratios.

i was once watching an Indy racing film from the 60's, the driver was in the pits jumping and rolling around on the ground like he had ants in his pants, everybody else was scrambling around him. METH FIRE!!!

meth burns without a flame. you don't see it until you feel it... its BANNED from Indy.

I don't think you guys really need to worry about replacing the throttle body/ intake mani gasket if its not leaking. It is metal. You should be fine re-using it.

I'll be fixing my seals this weekend so I could get retuned next week without any boost leaks. I just picked up a throttle body gasket from Mitsubishi, it was about $4.50. I think it's cheap insurance, I don't want any more leaks.

I'm finishing up my seal fix on my throttle body. Does anybody know the torque specs on the 4 bolts that attach the throttle body the intake manifold?

I did mine around 35 to 40 ft lbs. Those are crappy zinc bolts and they will twist and snap off if you're not careful.

EDIT: ok, maybe I didn't do it quite that much, more along the lines of 25-30ft/lbs. Obviously still above spec though.

Thanks for the answers. I originally went to 15 ft lbs and then went to 20 ft lbs and stopped there until I researched some more. I'm glad I did. I ran out of daylight so I'll button everything up tomorrow and perform one more leak test before I test drive the car.

Did anyone have any are leaking around the fuel injectors/harness? It's the only place air is leaking on mine.

I finished my seal repair and everything went pretty smooth. I performed a leak test and was able to go up to about 15 PSI without any leaks. That fricken bicycle pump was a b*tch to even get to that pressure, so I left it at that. I'll use my compressor next time I do a leak test. Before the repair my seals were leaking badly at about 4-5 PSI. When I started the engine I had a solid idle. I was having a rough idle for the past year and now it's as smooth as when I first bought the car. The idle was at 1100 RPM after the engine warmed up then settled down to about 900-1000 RPM. My previous idle was at a rough 800 RPM before the fix. As for the test drive, the off idle stumble I had is gone and off boost/part throttle has improved quite a bit. The car pulls much harder to redline. That leak was definitely costing me some horsepower. I'll be heading to Tuning Technoligies tomorrow to be re-tuned for my 10.5 hotside and am happy to know I won't have a boost leak to hold back the new tune. I would like to thank nigletsyz for the write up, this at least made the seal repair easier. I found that the hardest part to this repair was slipping in the new seals. They kept slipping out on one end. I ended up using a 11 mm 1/4" socket to center on the seal and I was able to apply even pressure over the seal. The seal went in much easier after that. BTW, those little TPS bolts were 7mm not 10 mm at least on my Evo.

Glad it helped and everything worked out well for you! Thanks for the correction on the TPS bolts; I didn't quite remember what socket I used but thought it was 10mm
