Looks good! I always like the DIY guys on car forums, I have to live vicariously through them since I don't have the time or skills to make things like this myself.

The bottom of the box is bolted onto the frame through a flange similar to the top. A 4 inch solid air duct replaces the old (and not very useful ) IC spray reservoir.

Jp7, no logging since I finished the box last week. The 4 inch air duct was already in place with other basic mods when it was tuned last Spring. (Great job by CBRD)

I wish I had pictures of my first box that I rocked for 3 years - but it got deleted when youdidtoddracing.com went under..... It was a plastic storage bin. It worked great - but was tacky looking.

Every intake is a little different and only a few, like HKS put the MAF in an orientation that you can mount it directly to the box. That's why my box is so large - it has to contain a filter that is closer to the engine and pointing up almost touching the hood. Mine is .063" aluminum.

Thanks to everyone for the favorable comments. I've tried to answer your questions, will always offer any help that I can. For those of you who think that you don't have the skills to make your own, Yes, you can! I felt the same way for the last year. I read every post, and studied every picture concerning air boxes. I thought, "I like this, but I don't like that. If I could buy the perfect air box, what would it look like?" etc. I made up my mind that I was going to do it, and I wasn't going to settle for less than what I wanted. You can, too!

I'm going to put together a How- To, but keep in mind that I made this specifically for my 2004 Evo VIII with an HKS intake, and filter. My specifications and design may (probably will) require changes if you have something else.

jid2, I'll tell every one on this forum that you have the most difficult intake and filter orientation to design a box for. My hat's off to you for the job you did on it. I've studied your setup many times trying to decide what I would have done with it.

KanyonKid,
Thanks, but why won't it be perfect! Don't settle for less! One time I was having part of this box bent at a metal shop, and the brake operator goofed up and warped my part just a little. I lied and told him that this was for a show car, and that I couldn't accept it. Then I challenged him by telling him that it was OK if he couldn't do to my specs. Guess what? He made me a new piece for free, and it was perfect. I gave him a five dollar tip, and the next couple of times I had work done there, he always made sure that he got my work, and told everyone else in the shop that he would do it because it had to be perfect.
