The most I trust to lower my car would be a half inch. The roads around here suck.

Even the roads in town cause me to worry at times at stock ride height. I can see how the lowered cars around here often have damaged front ends.

looks like you did a very good job, im actually against powdercoating because to a certain point it is permanent. Its hard and expensive to re-powdercoat wheels. So im more inclined to painted wheels, the only reason i had my wheels dismounted before paint was that i spent more money than rattle can. So i applaud the fact you didnt have them dismounted before you painted them because it just doesnt make sense to me to use a cheaper form of painting (rattle can) and pay more for the dismount/mount than the actual paint job. With that said, you need to make sure you do a good job painting/taping off/overspray clean-up, which it looks like you did.

As far as the plasti-dip, it's a cool concept since it peels off and even if it does chip, you can re-do it pretty easily. thumbs up to you buddy

Thanks.

As for over spray other than the diamonds in the center cap and the valve stem I did not tape anything else off. Since it peels off easy and is rubberized it is not really noticeable on the tires and rubs off anyway.

Now if I used another color I might have tried something different with the tires, so I would not have to rub any of it off.

I also want to point out that even if a person does not do a color it might be nice to use the clear on expensive wheels for winter protection. It is an easy and inexpensive way to help protect wheels and you can change the coat every so often.

I guess I'm pretty impulsive, because I'm going to Lowe's in a few hours to do this to my wheels. I have RO_JA rims, but the pitting on the lip from the crap they put on the roads out here drive me nuts. I always wanted to see what flat black wheels would look like on my car. Doing it for under $30, why not!
Thanks for being creative! BTW, I plasti dip some of my tools! Love it!

Some of the People on evom and even the evo/dsm community really **** me off!! There are so many freaking haters it's ruining the fun of it! Screw all the fan boys and bandwagoners in this place. You really creative and did something pretty unique and it turns out well. Those who don't like it? You are entitled to you own opinion but that's it. For Petes sake where did anybodys respect go? There is such a thing as constructive criticism but also offensive criticism. I like it, I'm going to do it to my 9's. Sorry for the rant!

I used it on my stock wheels and I am very happy with the results, sure beats the hell out of painting them. I used just over 3 cans on all 4 wheels. I even took the car through an automatic car wash and it never took it off. I'll admit I do hate on some things *cough* stretched tires *cough*, but never plastidip. I plan on using it on the factory bumper mesh because I get tired of repainting it every so often.

That stuff is great until it starts to peel.

I would also recommend against it if you heat up your wheels, like, uh, at the track.

There is a local guy that used plastidip on his shaved/soon to be tucked Evo III engine bay. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Well it was my first try I had heard of a few other car guys doing it so I did it the way I thought it should be done.

I took the wheels off the car and gave them a really good washing (not that it mattered on two of them because of some bad spots).

After that I dried them the best I could (probably could have gotten the lip a bit drier but now I know for next time), I would make sure they are completely dry.

Also I did this in my garage I did not want to do it in the hot sun.

After that I taped off what I wanted to keep sliver (in my case I wanted the diamonds on the center cap to be silver and I wanted the Enkei symbol to stay blue but that did not work out for me I did get the silver diamonds though). Since I used black I did not worry about covering the tires because you can rub off any over spray on them and it will not affect the rim. I would recommend though putting something easy to remove in the lug hole though. I sprayed the bottom and when putting the wheels back on noticed a little bit of pull off within the hole but not real noticeable unless you are looking.

Then I just sprayed one coat on each wheel waited the recommended time on the can and applied my next coat. I did three thick coats to get what I think is the desired thickness.

All in all I used just over three cans of spray.

As I said a few times this was my first try and I think they turned out nice. I learned a few things and mentioned that in this post. I will do a much cleaner job the next time I do it.

Here are some recent photos of my evo in a creek bed.

No track time here for me, just some back road driving with maybe a little bit of off roadish type stuff.
