Wingless Evo's/Evo's Without Wings | Anything and Everything [ALL THREADS MERGED]
Well, I'm sure I'll be one of very few votes for the bareback look, but I've removed the carbon fiber wing from my Evo for the following reasons:
1. A whole lot less attention from cops, potential carjackers, and thieves.
2. Better rearward visibility.
3. A little distance between myself and the Fast and Furious crowd. I know I drive a hot car and derive great pleasure from this. Automotive enthusiasts know it's an Evo and respect it greatly. The great unwashed masses barely look at the car, which is perfectly fine with me. I have nothing to prove to them.
I think the car looks great both with and without the wing. The slight wedge shape combined with the fender flares and agressive-looking front end still differentiate the car from just about any other on the street. Evidently, Mitsubishi thinks the wing isn't absolutely necessary as it sells the wingless hotrod RS version. When it comes time to sell my Evo, the wing will go back on, as I certainly realize that the majority opinion is, "it ain't an Evo without the wing".

I'm actually a big fan of the carbon fiber wing. However, the amount of attention it gets is making me think twice about keeping it. I know the cops are watching me whenever I happen upon them, but the worst comes from the street freaks. Everyone wants to say the beat an EVO in a street race so you tend to become a marked man.
So far I've had three WRXs ******* me on the highway and a couple of RSXs. I didn't give them the satisfaction, but it was annoying as hell.
So the wing may have to go!!

Dont own an evo or sti, but from the fans perspective of the car i doo dig the spoiler but wouldnt want the attention. After all everytime i see an sti or a lancer with a wing that big im all aroused

I like the cf wing. Don't love it. It just goes. I wouldn't have the Evo any other way. On the other hand,.... if I were to sleep it, I would lose the cf wing, de-badge it and all that ish. But hey! I'm no sleeper. It is what it is!
I'll never forget when a dealer tried to sell me an evo with a short spoiler. Of course my rents liked it, but it just didn't look right with the short spoiler and as long as they aren't putting a penny into it, it is going to be the way i want it. I asked why anyone would buy it and the dealer responded "So when someone pulls up next to you and they want to race you, they'll think it is a lancer." So at this point i'm thinking to myself. If anyone who has a worth while car to race and would want to race the evo, i'm pretty sure they'd know what it was by just looking at the front end. It just seems to me the point behind the short spoiler (unless you really like the look of it) is moronic.

I like the CF wing and I would not have bought my Evo without one. I don't get hassles from kids nor by cops.
BTW, I went to the Detroit Auto Show on Saturday and the Evo on display is red with a low spoiler. It also looked like a new version of a low spoiler. The same height as previous low spoilers, but it was six inches front-to-back, I think
. Who cares, tho? Gimme the CF.

i like my wing..don't have problems with the cop..but the ricers...damn near try to stare the paint off my car....all in all i think it looks better with it IMO...
Bare Back !
STEALTH !!!
No spoiler; no badges.
Clean, simple, and less attention from cops and ricers.
I once had a heavily-modded (turbo, etc) Miata. Nothing on the outside to show what was lurking within. I loved the looks on people's faces as I jetted off from stoplights!!
